Ghanaian journalist Kwaku Dawuro, host of Movement TV’s morning show, has stated that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the best candidate to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections.

According to Dawuro, Dr Bawumia’s experience and previous support from the electorate place him in a strong position to secure victory in the upcoming polls.

Speaking during an interactive session on August 30, 2025, Dawuro explained, “John Mahama and Bawumia contested the 2024 elections, where Mahama had 56% and Bawumia had 41%. In the next election, Bawumia already has that 41%, and with Mahama not contesting again, any candidate the NDC brings will be starting from ground zero.

How much did NPP rake in from aspirants?

“Because Mahama will not be on the ballot, his votes are essentially cancelled, and whoever replaces him as flagbearer will need to build their own support base from scratch. If Mahama were contesting, he would also be entering the race with his 56% base.”

Dawuro emphasised that this gives Dr Bawumia a strong foundation going into 2028, unlike any new candidate.

He also referenced Dr Bawumia’s recently popular slogan, “Aka 9 pɛ,” which suggests that Bawumia only needs to add 9% to his existing 41% from 2024 to reach the 50%+1 threshold required to win a presidential election in Ghana.
