Include traffic lights as well. In my municipality almost all the streets lights are not working. 100 street lights are simply not enough for us. I think the distribution should be need based and not on a blanket basis.

Here is a better solution for streetlight management.
1. Since we automatically pay streetlight levy to ecg, all MMD's together with ECG, should publish amount per streetlight they are willing to pay to interested partners, who are willing to manage them.
2. Those partners should come from the same district.
3. Each partner should be allocated specific section to manage, and no partner or affiliates should be allocated more than that.
4. workers should be sourced from the same district to ensure job opportunity for the locals.
5. partners can choose either to use solar or otherwise so long as the light is on, it does not matter.
6. Each district should have a team of 5, constantly monitoring streets light and ensuring compliance.
7. sanctions and termination of contract if partner fails to fix broken light after 2months.
8. extension of street light is the responsibility of the mmd's having considered importance and ability to pay.
9. payment of street light to partners will come from mmd's, either via common fund or IGF. And ECG will then pay to specific account of the mmd's of the money they collect from us when we purchase credit.
With such plan, each partner will ensure we have light in other for them to be in business.
Streetlight problems are easy fix. Please give me only that job, and I will shock Ghana.

@Loyd. Very, very good submission. Well written. However, I would like to differ from you on point No. 7. Why should it take 2 months to fix a broken light? I would suggest at most one (1) week. We need to change our attitude to work and be efficient. We are too tolerant to laziness. I hope someone can forward your proposals to the Regional Minister because you have spelled out very good ideas. Let us all help those in power to think outside the box so we can build our country and make it great and strong.

Madam minister fixing the street lights with proper plans to maintain them and security to prevent people from stealing the cables is what will keep the light on. If the Assembly and national security fails to provide 24 hours protect the street lights will be down within one week after fixing it. The street lights challenge is a complex situation, we should task the national security to handle the street lights project. The only thing that will keep the lights on is providing security 24/7 to make sure the lights are maintain and protected.
