The EC have to do the by-election is a democratic process who knows the voters may not like the candidate to represent them. And may like someone else.

An aspiring National Youth Organiser of the NPP doesn't know the rules that govern elections in the country? If you want the rules changed you know where to turn. No one should circumvent any rule or law for the sake of convenience or cost saving especially in elections thus setting a bad precedence. If after filling to contest the election and only one candidate filed, then a no contest can be declared. However that cannot be done until the filling day is past. There are other parties, PNC, CPP and rest who may come up last minute if there is a perceived division in the NDC front.

You said you were not contesting. Your General Secretary came to make that announcement. But at the same time you were campaigning vigorously underground. Then you eventually contested and did very well. What if you decide to contest a day before the voting what would this fragile democracy and EC do?.

We have about 10 certified political parties in Ghana if one decided not to contest, a bye-election the rest plus potential independent candidates can participate.

The electoral rules or laws do not call for a political party to be responsible for filling a vacant parliamentary seat without a bye-election. NDC and NPP are not the only political parties in the country. A bye-election has to set so that any political party wishing to field a candidate can do so. The EC doesn't have to wait to determine if there are parties interested in fielding candidates before setting a date for any bye-election. If on the day of the election only one party has fielded a candidate, the voting must still be conducted to determine the number of votes obtained in the election before declaring the winner of the election. Just because the NPP has decided to stay out of that bye-election doesn't mean that the EC has the authority to declare the candidate of one party the winner without a formal election taking place. Your NPP will be the first to run to court to contest the EC endorsing a handpicked parliamentary replacement without a formal election.
