  There's no turning back. A real effort to stop galamsey is finally in place, and it will succeed. Time to start imprisoning Chinese galamsey criminals in Ghana prisons instead of deporting them without any prison time. This lax policy is what keeps drawing more Chinese crooks to Ghana to engage in galamsey. Instead of just seizing the mining equipment of these galamsey owners, the government should also have a forfeiture program aimed at seizing the assets of these galamsey owners. Go after their bank accounts, their houses and other known assets, and that can be used to clean up the contaminated lands left behind by the galamsey criminals.

  One obvious way to stop galamsey is to make farming attractive. Why does a cocoa farmer seĺl his land to galamsey operators? Because farming is a thankless task which represents very poor return on investment. Daily rated labour expensive and hard to come by. Last year, it's was ghc80. Thus year, it's ghc100 a day (8am to 1pm), And the promised increment by the president didn't materialise. When you consider the sacrifices made by farmers, the way they live, the water they drink, the lack of schools for their children, why would galamsey not be an attractive option?

  If the government was seriously committed to responsible small scale gold mining, the function at Obuasi would've been postponed when the VVIPs on the program decided not to attend.
  Obviously the absence of the VVIPs took away the impactful impression the function was expected to create.
  Postponement was a good choice. The crash and the resultant tragedy could've been avoided. Prophesorial claims of prophetic chalarltans would've become irrelevant.
