I wasn’t a baby then and I remember some of his roads and construction projects. Yes, there was Operation Feed Yourself. During his time, Ghana produced and exported food for the first time. We did not have RAWHIDE RAWLINGS’ CHAIN around our neck. I am glad that Boakye Djan, the Architect of all those murders had a lonely life at the end he died miserably. Yes, and the Anlo Ewe Murderous gang that was headed by Efo all had lonely lives later in life. Their lives don’t matter anymore because Asiedu Nketsia has hijacked the party. That prolonged delay met with the heavy rains of the Rainy Season. And the outcome is the complete erosion of road works which have degraded into puddles, potholes, gullies and cavities. Virtually unmotorable!

The Achimota to the Nsawam road has been in a deplorable state since the the 1980’s and up to this time we as a nation cannot do anything to improve it . The same applies to the road from the Legon university to the Aburi junction and the Koforidua - Akwadum to Suhum road. It is time the government start jailing these contractors who are responsible for these roads. Are these road contractors really qualified or they are awarded these contracts based on party affiliation. Our roads have claimed more lives than diseases and it is time those contractors are charged with murder for deaths caused by road accidents that may be attributed to poor road conditions. Any contractor who has built a road should mandated to maintain the condition of these roads for at least fifteen years . These roads are constructed with sub standard construction materials and become unworthy to travel on within just a year of being completed. The government must start prosecuting road contractors who cannot complete these jobs within a specified time period or construct poor roads . If our road contractors are not to the task, the government should seek foreign contractors.

I remember the Road Contractor working on the Effiduase to Akwadum road was arrested and tortured in public for delaying the work on the road only for those stupid Soldiers to realize that the contractor had not been paid a Pesewa for all the time he had worked on the road. Yes, those were crazy days. Some of us have walked from Koforidua to Suhum before because Drivers were not prepared to wreck their vehicles on that road. And the Drivers who risked using their vehicles on that road, only God knew how long it took. Yes, those were the days when Vehicle Tyres had to be patched up with sewn portions. Vehicles had no Spare Tires. Get a Flat Tire on the road and passengers had to walk to their destinations. Yes, people walked from Accra to Tema through Osu, Labadi, Teshie and Nungua before arriving at Accra. Rawlings’ AFRC and earlier PNDC era was just barbaric and inhuman. It is just excellent Efo Jeremiah John Rawlings, and their cohorts all had lonely, miserable and unhappy shameful deaths.

This nonsense is no different from spending money on the Cathedral. It makes no sense that public servants should spend the now deprived taxpayers money on expensive vehicles (V8s, Landcruisers, Patrols etc) for transport when less expensive but safe and comfortable vehicles that cost much less than V8's can perform the tasks without any problem. Only leadership can come out with policy to curb this wanton waste, and as part of reset agenda it must be done. To prevent public officials from going round any such rule it must be made such such that new vehicles bought and used for any state activity by any official whether with government money, or his own or donated must be within specifications given under the policy which must require them to be seen to be promoting the rule. To support the policy, every year we must calculate the savings made by not buying the more expensive V8s for citizens to see.
