In the case of an Independent candidate, the second contender in the election could be selected. Even if the second placed candidate in dead we can select the third and so on.

By-Election provides opportunity for voters in the constituency to hold their representatives accounts between elections and its one of the main aims of democracy, Kwabena. Most By-Elections results influence the present Government decisions and goverance. Just Immagine NDC losing Tamale Central Seat in the up-coming By-Election. This will force the NDC to re-think its strategies and decisions in the Northern Region. If NDC are able to win the Akwatia next month seat with over 2000 NPP majority votes , that will be confidence votes for the NDC and a warning sign of number of seats NPP likely to fall in next General Election.

Ghana cannot scrap by-elections for 2 important reasons that the system we currently have must be overcome in order to do so and they are:
(1) The ruling majority party and the president of Ghana, if both are of the same political party, cannot and must not tie national development policies of the ruling majority party or national projects to political party membership or afiliation of the MP who represent districts; there should be a constitutional prohibition against the discontinuation of projects started by previous government administration and (2) Parliament sessions must adhere to the 40-year or 50-year development plan so that scheduled district project start times are adhered to by governments.

Without the guarantees in the above given reasons, communities within districts are bound to be neglected once election outcomes do not go as planned, anticipated. For example, voters in the upcoming by-elections must either vote for a candidate solely because of tribal or party preference/affiliation and go without development for some years to come or vote for a candidate that would bring them needed development projects even if they do not care for the party he or she presents.

Good idea. In other jurisdictions when a sitting mp passes, or in incapacitated such that he can't perform duties the party nominates someone to continue the said MPs uncompleted term..this is simple n common sense
