  INSTALLING ONE FUNCTIONAL AUTOPILOT ON A MILITARY HELICOPTER SHOULD CERTAINLY BE FAR LESS THAN US$1.4 MILLION, WHICH IS THE MARKET PRICE OF ONE 400 TROY OUNCES OF ONE GOLD BULLION OR GOLD BAR.
  
  GHANA LEADERS COULD NOT DO THIS SIMPLE COMMON SENSE THING TO MITIGATE SHCH NEEDLESS HELICOPTER FATALITIES.

  Col Sir, I don't intend to take the wind out of your sail, but, I just wonder the use of those so-called special forces of the armed forces whom we only see at independence day parades with faces painted in camouflage. We see them arriving at the parade grounds in helicopters and RAPPELLING down long ropes onto the square. Immediately the armed forces got wind of the crash, couldn't the service commanders have taken the initiative to deploy those rapellers into the forest to first of all secure the crash site, cordon off the area, and even used the right materials like appropriate body bags? Why has the armed forces' sense of purpose declined so drastically? They only train FOR NOTHING. Why? The so-called special forces are literally useless because I think the commanders lack initiative and proactivity. Why? I recall with nostalgia how ECOMOG was conceived in Burma Camp, not Abuja, by the GAF service commanders then; then nigeria was roped in obviously due to their superior logistical endowment. Gen Quainoo, who had then been redeployed earlier, was tasked with commanding the force. The same with galamsey. The armed forces is simply toothless. Why? Oh what a shame? Is this the armed forces that vibrated with high morale and tangible deeds in the 90s?..... the armed forces that fought the Nanumba and Konkonba wars, losing officers and men, particularly when a whole Pinzgauer was booby trapped in a covered pit and it's occupants killed by savage natives? Col, I wonder why you also retired too early. Perhaps your service command and legacy at a certain point in the history of the army would have affected the culture of the future GAF as it is unfolding today. So sad. Why?

  Some of us have said it many times that resetting the country is more than just improvements in macro-economic indicators. Our institutions are still poorly managed, and there is lack of accountability across the board. Non performing officials are still at their posts and party loyalty reigned supreme over competence. Apart from Nkrumah's era, successive governments have ruled the country without a concrete development plan covering all aspects of our lives. This is not the first time we have experienced a disaster as a nation and yet 68 years after independence we still do not have a robust national emergency response system in place.

  In as much as Ghana is not emergency prepared like the developed countries I think that the nature of this air crash leaves much to be desired and therefore, only improvised means could be deployed to meet the exigencies of the time. Body bags could not be readily available for any serious retrieval of the burnt bodies. In addition, the deep forest spot of the scene could only afford what was immediately available to convey the bodies for onward transport to the nearest health facility where appropriate body bags could be sought for. So let's engage with the necessary investigation and unravel the cause of the bizarre crash of the helicopter.

They were ill prepared as this might be the first severe air force service crash rescue our officers had encountered. There was enough time for the security services and agents on the ground and first miltary responders at the to secure the crash site to keep it sterile for the military investigation team to arrive and start their job . But rather the locals were allowed into to crime scene which was open to all reporters,journalist, locals who were the first responses to the scene for their own agenda of taking first hand pictures of the crash site and stealing of items from the victims and debris. They wanted to make money by selling their first hand pictures to media houses how offer them the highest bid. Media houses who are in possession of graphic images should be sent to jail if they post or share them. This is nothing our country has ever experienced in our history. Hard to comprehend. May the kind and merciful God hold the families together, console them and keep them strong.

Government must invest more in paramedics training, ambulance both on land and air, fire tenders both land and air.
