I am not an Akan. But I will always remember and respect how the Ashantis stood up against one of their own, Col Acheampong, when he attempted to turn Ghana into a one party state by introducing a union government. (the “Unigov yes!” vrs “Unigov No!”) referendum. The late General Afrifa campaigned throughout Ashanti region to educate people about the dangers of one party rule and eventually got them to vote against General Acheampong even though he was Ashanti. ( l know that unfortunately, there are tribes in Ghana who cannot see beyond their noses and who will never challenge the wrongs committed by one of their own) .
Only in this shithole country can government Official One become a president in the first place, not to mention a second term! Shithole country!

Folks, I am inclined to agree with kwasi Pratt's opinion piece for a simple fact that, any idea to extend presidential term limit would create more harm than it is intended. Imagine JA kuffour had changed the presidential term limit when he was also popular back then and then came Nana Akufu Addo, it means Nana Akufu Addo would have foisted himself on us till date
and he Mahama would have had no chance to the presidency let alone showing us what he is capable of. Another reason why third term for Mahama is a dangerous idea is, it would inadvertently arise the dead political fortune of the opposition NPP. They are going to rally around this single objective by organising countless number of demonstrations against Mahama and the NDC whereby making John Mahama look like a monster. Even if Mahama managed to win the third term that win, however genuine it is,would have sealed the fortune of NDC with it irrespective of their performance at the governance. NDC should rather look for another person who has the chance of winning not only the next election but also the subsequent one and beyond because such electoral victories would have passed the test of democracy. Let's all of us think of the longevity of NDC and Ghana, our mother land. Say amen.

The NDC lack the men and of course presidential material that's why they are calling on JDM to go for a third term. This can never happen in any the other political parties. Not even GUM

While in opposition, JDM came public to declare his stance on LGBTQ and attracted applause mostly from his supporters. Now the ball is in his court let him response to it. If it happens that the bill of that nature goes to parliament, remember what happened in Burkina Faso when the citizens blocked and prevented the MPs from entering the chamber ? The agitated citizens made sure MPs didn't get access to parliament house to pass into law the extension of the then president Blaise Campoare. It's through such agitation that brought Campoare's tenure to an end and fled into exile and I know some matured members of his own party, ndc, won't support him if he chose that path.

However there must be an amendment to the constitution to remove a non performing and corrupt president by vote of non confidence without waiting for such a president to end his term of office of Ghana does not want the military to succeed intervene when the citizens are advocating for the removal of the president. If Mahama and his appointees perform exceptionally well the credit will go to the NDC party and Ghanaians will give another mandate to the party even if Mahama does not run for a third term. Having said that , I think our constitution needs amendments to reflect the current state of political governance.

NDC governments, past and present, are autocratic with serious attachments to the military and other security forces. They ignore the democracy clauses enshrined in the constitution they supervised to enact in 1992.
Look at the dawn gun raids in civilian homes, the daily beatings and shootings.
They have forgotten that they were elected by the same people who are being maltreated. We have the police force, but they are seen as ineffective.
As someone said above the most of the visible developments in the country were done by the NPP government even though they have had less period in power than the NDC.
Ghana does not have peace in the era of NDC. It is happening now. So those who are very keen to see Mahama run again should stop the commotion and watch out. It will not happen.
If the constitution should be amended, then the extensive powers of the president are what must be amended and limited. The executive is just one arm of government, but it is given more than enough to deal with. It leads to despotic tendencies.
The present president himself has not done enough to merit any praise and encouragement to carry on as usual.
Stop the noise and the decay you are trying to ferment.

Have you ever heard or seen any of Mahama's children graduating from any Univ be it in Ghana or abroad?

We all know the Universities Rawlings children attended. We know the ones Akuffo-Addos children attended. We know where Naana Janes children had their PhD.

We don't even know if Mahama's boys ever completed any High School or who their classmates are be it Ghana, Dubai, London or US.

If he could not encourage his children to go to University you think he has what it takes to grow a 21st Century knowledge based economy?

All those calling for Mahama to run for a third term are s6ycophantic buffoons. Have they forgotten that others were calling for Mahama to denied a second term and folks stood behind Mahama by correctly advocating that the law as it's written must be respected, thus allowing Mahama to contest for a second term. Equally, the law as it's written must be respected, and that law calls for a President to be elected only two terms. Hence, those calling for Mahama to run for a third term are wanting to have Ghana's election laws twisted to suit one person, and that should never be condoned. This is Mahama's last term in office, and no third term should be allowed for Mahama or any other President. No one wants the Museveni disease in Ghana.
