Like Sam George, these are the strategists we need to fiercely pursue the sanity we urgently need in the system. The sheer lack of accountability and impunity has been made to seep too deep into the strata of our economy and that needs resetting.
Gladly,we have seen the minister of health, Akandoh doing same. His articulate subject matter deputy is about to drive her own exciting KPIs. The arrogance in our healthcare system needs sanitizing to prevent avoidable mortalities.
Ministers must not just occupy positions and draw salaries and benefits from our taxes. Their impact must be measurable and visible to the ordinary citizens. The days of sloganeering and propaganda must give way to cashable impact.
Politics must not be reduced to a vehicle for personal wealth acquisition but a real tool for delivering real solutions.

HOSPITALS IN GHANA EXIST IN NAME
So-called Hospitals in Ghana exist in name. Lack of equipments. Lack of instruments. Age-old labs. Poor sanitation. Rickety beds for patients. Deteriorated facilities. The constraints are so daunting that most medical doctors can't make diagnoses based on reliable lab results.
The Ghana Medical Association must be bold. It must come out and tell the Ghana Public everything that needs to be in a set of buildings to qualify it to be called a Hospital: A hospital must save lives.
The Hospital Signboard gives the patients confidence. But the medical doctors and nurses in the hospital know that they don't have the needed equipment and supporting services to deliver the health care which the patients expect. And the public doesn't know. The politicians, who know, keep quiet and pretend to care.
All politicians go abroad for medical care, knowing the hospitals in Ghana exist in name.
The loans for new hospitals include every necessary item. But the taxpayers get shortchanged all the time. The Medical Doctors Association and Registered Nurses Association never go on strike for lack of hospital equipments. They cry for Pay Increases. Patients go to queue for health care but the doctors and nurses don't have the means to offer the care.
The patients are the taxpayers who pay the salaries of the doctors and nurses and the politicians. The patients are the taxpayers whose money built the hospitals which merely exist in name.

Yes, I agree this minister is doing an excellent job. This is the typical 'management by walking about'. You go around and see things yourself. Then the things you see, help you make important procedural and policy changes. You formulate new policies and implement these new/revised policies. For example, hospital administrators should be up and doing. Why would three people in the same unit go on leave at the same time? That is a failure by the hospital administration. Leave periods are usually planned ahead of time and human resource planning is done way in time to ensure continuity in service delivery. I also advice the minister to formulate a policy where every hospital will have a well functioning logistics department. Health logistics is another important area that needs to be considered. Each hospital and clinic should employ health logistics professionals. These health logistics professionals can help with 'scheduling', planning, inventory management, etc. For examples, equipment that is not functional should be immediately reported to the logistics department to quickly replace by leasing from central health stores, getting these equipments repaired and then resupplied to the units. There are several young graduates that have studied logistics/supply chain and are unemployed. Every government clinic and hospital should have a well functioning health logistics department that manage the acquisition and supply of materials, and equipment in the hospitals. The health logistics department can also be charged with conducting customer service surveys, monitor service delivery and implement corrective measures. I hope the health minister reads this comment and help implement some of the suggestions I have proposed here.
This minister of health seems to be very hard-working. He needs to be given the necessary encouragement by all to enable him overcome or deal with the massive problems of the health sector.
