It is silly to reject Ghanaian students but accept the same student for accreditation short courses if they come back from Uganda where they were taken in for the same reasons they were rejected in Ghana.

Law is cheap and it will serve Ghana well to direct our attention towards science and technology .
That is what is ruling the world ever since, instead of law that can always be interpreted to suit a ruling class of people.
We have become a country that is not producing anything but consumers.
Nkrumah was a deep thinker that why he established so many industries to meet our needs.
Parliament is full of half backed lawyers with degrees on paper but no vision.
Instead of solving problems politicians turn to traditional leaders because it's beyond their knowledge and understanding.
Bawku is a clear example for Mahama Ayariga and the NDC,who promised to put an end to it
Common sense and diplomacy is needed here instead of throwing dust during campaign time into the eyes of Bawku inhabitants.
We are tired of the bunch of lawyers parading on court premises with nothing better to offer the nation than college degrees.

Shame on them. This is the same method they use whenever they are out of power and wants to make the ruling government unpopular. Do you remember the serial killings of women? They blamed NDC but later said it was Charles Quansah when they came to power. Useless and evil NPP

I understand your frustration, whether genuine or otherwise but eventually you'll applaud the wisdom in this policy. It is part of a broader strategic national development agenda which will dovetail into all the other moving parts you just enumerated for a nation looking to frog leap so-called third-world restraints. A solid national legal education framework incorporating a democratic qualification regime is an imperative for a rapidly evolving economy. Same revolutionary transformation is required in the Telecoms industry (not the platitudinous Same George type) and so forth.

In principle I agree that there should be a plurality of institutions that can provide professional legal training to grant opportunity for everyone one with capability to becoming a lawyer. That said, law is a very important pillar of every society and therefore the standards must not be lowered to a level playing field. The profession of lawyer is an institution that is elitist by nature because of the qualify of mind, moral and ethical conduct and courteousness that its practitioners must exude. The country that developed it firs, i.e. the UK, you can only become a lawyer after a rigorous training regime that prepares you as an honesty, well read and ethical assessed by Inns of Court after you have passed all the academic and vocational training. The Inns of court ensures that those who are not fit and proper persons to be lawyers are not called to the Bar, irrespective whether you have passed all your exams. This is to protect the respectability and trust of the profession by the public. Hence, you must come from a certain background to have the characteristics to be a member of the profession they call the noble profession. The problem with Ghana is some of the current lawyers have not been noble in their conduct. They have already disgraced and destroyed the trust the public should have in the profession because of their ill-mannered attitude and dishonest conduct. The answer is not producing more lawyers but rather the quality of lawyers who can restore the respectability and trust of the public to deliver justice without fear or favour ( the oath lawyers take on qualifying) as opposed to justice subject financial gain or personal or political interest.

In principle I agree that there should be plurality of institutions that provides professional legal training to grant an opportunity to anyone with the capability to qualify as a lawyer. That said, law plays a very important role in society and therefore the standards must not be lowered to a level playing field. Law protects our rights and obligations in relation to our freedom from arrest, our ownership of property, business relationships and our democratic society(constitutional rights, elections and governments), amongst others. The profession of lawyer is an institution that is elitist by nature because of the quality of mind by intellectual rigours, moral and ethical conduct and courteousness that practitioners must display both in court as well as outside the courtroom. The country that first introduced the profession, i.e. the UK, they would only qualify you as a lawyer after passing a rigorous training regime that prepares you to be an honesty, well read and ethically assessed by Inns of Court after you have passed all the academic and vocational training. The Inns of court ensures that those who are not fit and proper persons to be lawyers are not called to the Bar, irrespective of whether you have passed all your exams or even the best student with the highest grade. They guard the entry into the profession jealously in order to proven its good name from being destroyed by unfit and proper people. This is to protect the respectability and trust of the profession by the public. Hence, you must come from a certain background or learn and adapt to certain characteristics to be fit call yourself as a member of the profession, of which they call the noble profession (because of trust and justice members are required to uphold). The problem with Ghana is some of the current lawyers have not been noble in their conduct. They have already disgraced and destroyed the trust the public should have in the profession because of their ill-mannered attitude and dishonest conduct. In the UK, most of them would never be allowed to practise as lawyer. The answer to this peculiar problem of Ghana is not producing more lawyers but rather the quality of lawyers that is produced. Quantity can never beat quality. They need lawyers who are properly and rigorously trained who can restore the respectability and trust of the public to deliver justice without fear or favour (the oath lawyers take on qualifying) as opposed to justice subject to financial gain or personal or political interest. There is no need for a knee jerk reaction out of envy or jealousy because in attempt to lower the standards, you will end up flooding the market of lawyers only to end up reducing their earnings after many years of dedicated and hard and difficult study, not forgetting the costs involved. When that happens no one would want to invest in becoming a lawyer and would mean the society would suffer because our legal disputes and issues would not be resolved in civil manner through the courts but rather through fighting and killing each other.
