Why is it that landlords are not talking? Do you know how much investment is made in building and interest rates we are paying on the loans?
I know it's expensive to rent in Accra but what involved a quality house is too much compared to the rent. If government can invest heavily into housing, that will reduce the burden.

The topic of Rent is the main cause of Stealing, Curroption and Poverty in this era for the youth. The system in Ghana is Monthly earnings, hence where do you think the youth will gather 1 to 2 years money to pay for a rent? There should be a policy that allows able tenant to pay monthly with a backing security deposit of 1 month as down payment and a confirm documents indicating financial capability of funds to keep paying the monthly agreed rent fee as long as the tenant decides to stay. Many of the youth will be able to save money, invest or do businesses that will keep money running in the system and Government can even access loans from the banks because there is enough savings from the youth. Don't forget ,the youth holds the highest population in the country and hence this method will also help boost the economy. Now the case of Landlords taking 1 to 2 years because they invested their money and need to get their returns is not entirely the best because every business personnel can also say they need their full returns at the end of every investment instantly but it doesn't work that way brothers and sisters.

If the tenants Union feels landlords are demanding more from tenants then they should chanel their frustrations to the state housing company to build more houses for the rental population.
Even though there are some law's guiding house rentals, land laws are not obliged to follow those laws because in Ghana, a pacel of a land and cost of building materials are very expensive and that's why land lord are demanding one to two years advance payment from ternants.

I pray that you build a house in your lifetime to experience the stress we go through to come out with a complete structure meant for renting. You can’t compare western countries system to Ghana where someone can easily build with just a good credit and a small deposit from the owners pocket.
In Ghana majority of property owners build from scratch with their own money and by the time the house is finished, you talking about $200k and up.
When do you expect the landlord or lady to recoup the cost?
After 50 years???
If you can’t pay a minimum of 1 year then guess what, every 6 months rent will go up when there’s time for renewal and who suffers eventually? Our tenants!!!
