Port charges, including import duty is insanely high in Ghana. Why do you have to pay as much as the price of car you're importing? No wonder people will alternative way of shipping a car.

Containers come from Togo with fixed charges per container arrangement into Ghana. This is no news. This is standard procedure that people have been using to evade taxes charged at Tema Port
It is the customs and immigration officers that are profiting from these alleged smugglers. Most of the would-be-earned revenue goes to their pickets
Reducing fees and import duty would quickly bring the smuggling down to zero.

The minister should know better. If import duties and charges at the ports are reduced, no one will snuggle goods into Ghana. Why is it so easy to import goods to Lome port but not Tema.
