For a policy drawn from the Education Act, 2008, its abolition has to be based on very tangible reason(s). Is the only reason because it places unnecessary hurdles in the way of teachers? Worldwide, all professions require some sort of certification before one can practice. Lawyers write post-bar exam before they are certified to practice; same for doctors, architects and several other professions. It is common knowledge in Ghana that teaching, sadly, serves as a dumping ground for many people who are unable to progress in their academic pursuits. This has tended to lower standards in the teaching profession. The licensure exam sought to cure this, so that people who intend to teach as a profession would sit up and pass the exam for proper certification. The revocation of this policy is a populist and retrograde step, and a most disappointing one. Unfortunately, the president made it a campaign promise, so willy nilly, the government will implewnt it. Sad....very sad that national progress gets embroiled in party politics all thw time.

@Kay, some of you are fools and just follow your hollow party goons. The sound argument the NDC made is that, the licensure exams must be incorporated in their exams while still in school. That means, if any student fails in the exams, he/she won't be graduating. This is akin to lawyers, doctors, nurses etc. They don't graduate and later go seating for a seperate so called licensure exams. Get sense and flow with the RESET agenda.

My brother you are embarrassing yourself with your ignorance. Many professional licensing exams take place after students graduate. At least I can speak to my profession of pharmacy. You may pass all your exams during school years but once you fail the GPPQE, which you write after graduation, you do not have the license to practice as a pharmacist. Many other professions do same!

TEACHERS SHOULD RATHER BE REFERRED TO AS LEARNED PROFESSIONALS NOT LAWYERS. Because of the Licensure Exams which makes them professionals and also because they teach professionally.

It's a bad idea and totally unacceptable for the NDC government to scrap the teacher licensure exams in Ghana. Medical Doctors, nurses pharmacists, engineers, lawyers and pharmacy technician write licensure exams after their period of three of fours of formal education and so what is so different about teachers in training colleges writing licensure exams. Teacher licensure examsination is recognized globally and so why is the NDC government taking Ghana back?
