For once I applaud the Ga Traditional Council for this decisive action. In the spirit of oneness and African unity, all Africans are welcome to live peaceably among us but for an individual to elevate himself to the status of a "King" in a Republican status country! No way! He should not be tolerated one second. The Ga Traditional Council must not limit their caution to just the letter "disowning" the wannabe "King". It must ensure that he complies with the directive, possibly using the law enforcement agencies for compliance. I foresee danger, real, clear and present danger if this madness is not stopped. There are no kingdoms in Ghana for us to have any king, let alone a foreign one at that.

Ga traditions and customs insulates Gas from even Ghanaians from other Regions claiming to be Gas, let alone Nigerians. The originators, ancestors of every Ga last name have houses bearing their last names in Gamashie, Osu, La, Teshie, Nungua, Ningo and Tema, from which all their descendants come from. So, you can pretend to be from Accra, but if your lineage cannot be traced from any of these houses, YOU ARE NOT A GA. Also, Ga Chieftaincy runs through males, last names, the original house of your ancestry, and blood lines. So, tell me, HOW IS A NIGERIAN WITH A NIGERIAN WIFE from a Ga mother going to qualify to be a chief/king in Accra- This man's claims are symbolic at best. Just as Ghanaian borgers have their own native kings in the western world.

If there are no kings in Ghana, why does Tackie Tawia call himself "King Tackie Tawia"? The man says he is the king of Ibos. He is not king of Gas or king of Ghana. Why should this be the business of a Ga chief?

Stop saying that. Will you sit and watch another man come raise a family in your home? Why should the Ga Traditional Council allow him form a kingdom here and parade himself as King in Ghana. If he wants to be King he should go back to his homeland and become King there; here in Ghana, he is an immigrant and nothing more so he should stick to whatever business that brought him here and stop that nonsense of King of Igbos in Accra.
In fact government and National security should take keen interest in stopping this nonsense. This is nothing to be entertained. Do you think Igbos will allow a Ghanaian to go parade himself as King of Ghanaians in Igbo land? It is not allowed!!

If he is a monarch why try to establish a kingdom elsewhere.
He is not a royal and cannot get up and proclaim yourself king.
This is an affront to the host nation.
What is worst he wants to establish an exclusive area. If he thinks he is too good for Ghanaians why come and live amongst them.
What he is doing is wrong and illegal
Note that this is not against Igbos or Nigerians but anyone who thinks they can usurp the laws and sovereignity of Ghana and its traditional polities is truly mistaken

Policy Brief
Reframing the “Igbo Kingdom” Dialogue: Toward Pan‑African Unity and Cultural Cohesion
Context and Issue
A public dispute has emerged in Ghana following reports of the establishment of an “Igbo Kingdom” in the Volta Region. The Ghanaian Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has disavowed the initiative, citing constitutional breaches and potential disruptions to local authority. Public reactions have ranged from concern to outright rejection, often framed through a nationalist lens.
However, this framing ignores deeper historical, linguistic, and cultural realities. The issue should not be reduced to a matter of foreign intrusion or land acquisition, but rather understood as a challenge—and opportunity—for Africa to rethink its fragmented identity and move toward continental cultural cohesion.
Key Insight: Shared Linguistic and Cultural Roots
Contrary to popular belief, the Igbo and Gbè-speaking peoples (including the Ewe, Fon, Aja, Gen, and others) are not unrelated groups. They both belong to the Volta–Niger branch of the Benue–Congo subgroup within the Niger–Congo language family — one of the most ancient and expansive linguistic lineages on the continent. This makes them linguistic cousins, not foreigners.
Summary of Shared Identity:
The Igbo and Gbè-speaking peoples are culturally and linguistically connected through a common ancestry. Their spiritual traditions, social structures, and oral histories all point to a shared civilizational framework that predates colonial borders. Migration and coexistence between these groups is a reactivation of ancestral ties, not a disruption of Ghanaian sovereignty.
Root Cause: Colonial Fragmentation and the Illusion of Foreignness
The tension surrounding the so-called “Igbo Kingdom” is not truly about cultural invasion. It stems from a deeper issue: Africa’s continued entrapment in colonial territorial identities. The Ghana–Nigeria border is a colonial construct that artificially separates culturally related peoples.
The insistence on Ghanaian, Nigerian, or Togolese nationalism over Pan-African unity plays directly into the logic of neocolonial divide-and-rule systems, keeping African nations weak, suspicious of each other, and isolated from continental integration.
Policy Recommendations
Affirm Shared Ancestry in Official Discourse
Government statements should acknowledge the historical, linguistic, and cultural ties among Volta–Niger peoples to de-escalate nationalist tensions and foster continental solidarity.
Pan-African Cultural Integration Strategy
Ministries of culture and education across West Africa should coordinate to promote a common narrative of shared identity—through curriculum, museums, intercommunity exchanges, and festivals.
Reform Chieftaincy Governance through a Pan-African Lens
Update chieftaincy frameworks to recognize transborder cultural institutions, ensuring accountability while affirming shared ancestral systems that span colonial borders.
Establish a Continental Commission on Cultural Reunification
Propose the creation of an AU-affiliated body to oversee the identification and protection of Pan-African cultural identities, including traditional migration routes, linguistic zones, and diasporic links.
Conclusion
The “Igbo Kingdom” controversy must not be treated as an isolated incident of foreign expansion. It should instead awaken Africa to the unfinished project of continental cultural reunification. The Igbo and Gbè-speaking peoples are not foreigners to each other; they are branches of the same ancestral tree. Rather than reinforcing artificial territorial boundaries, this moment calls for visionary Pan-African leadership that heals divisions and fosters cultural reawakening across the continent.
