Your point seems to be to leave the gold market to the private sector.
Having been that what we have been doing time immemorial?
If Bright has any ideas, give them to the government and STOP being THE TOP CRITIC IN GHANA.

All that this IMANI boy and his master do is criticize, whether NPP or NDC. They hardly ever offer any viable and sensible alternatives. The fact the price of gold has gone up does not mean the increase in our export of the commodity was not a planned or policy effort by the GOLD BOARD. If Bright Simons and his boss are so smart, why don't they set up their own companies, run them with their 'smart' ideas and let others do what they have been appointed to do. At the end of the day, Ghanaians will hold their appointees to book.

What do you think he's doing?
First, he's not actually critiquing Golgbod, he's holding them accountable in case there's dishonesty in their info dissemination concerning the volume of Gold exports when they don't hold monopoly of all exports.
He then addresses how they can reset this through the re-issuance of licenses and general management oversight per the new laws in vigor, and that only then could they aptly give accurate information on exactly how much Gold was export, IF all exports were going from Golgbod.
Everyone needs his little contributions when they matter. But in Ghana, you're condemned on your opinions or lack thereof, and we're seeing this even more after NPP loss. It is of much interest how people admire the erstwhile government chronic robbery and stewardship of this country and never opened their mouths because their families profit.
Why should any normal human not understand that it is horrible for Ghana to have all these resources while the governments hurtle each time to the IMF for cash to even pay workers, our road network remains very bad and hungry countrymen continue to exist.

If the Goldbod can eliminate to the minimum, the other buyers in the market especially the foreigners, and becomes the sole buyer, and caps its administrative costs or reduces this cost to a minimum, i don't see why it should not succeed. It could even become more efficient than cocobod whose staff and V8s are more than the cocoa beans which it buys. Bright, if you have any ideas to make this work you are obligated to share it with the Goldbod. It should not be about criticisms and criticisms forever!!!!!

Reading Simon’s comment, it’s clear he is coming from a defeatist doom angle rather than acknowledging the importance and vast benefits of the establishment before mayb suggesting views to make it more effective.

It's unfortunate and very unfair politicians are always at all time misleading and making trends look to be the machinations of their's to score cheap political goals which do not truly serve to alleviate the suffering of the people.
It's particularly worrying that there are no decent voices to speak about the negative attitude emerging from the long sufferings Ghanaians have had to endure under myopic minded politicians in Ghana.
Some politicians may have built one or two roads and buildings, but what could be seen happening in Ghana is that the long sufferings the people are going through is changing Ghanaians moral fabric.
Whatever the Ghanaian attitude is today is a reflection of the bad attitudes that have existed at the top of leadership and permeated to the lower innocent Ghanaians.
Atleast the decency to question this is necessary to restore the good behaviour of the Ghanaian again.
When leaders try to paint black to be white, it will permeate down to children and change the good nature of the Ghanaian.
If some people got $4.6billion from 66tons gold last year and another got thesame $4.6billion from less tonage, it calls to question that, either prices have changed or some people pocketed some of the proceeds from the sale of the gold.
Going forward, things like what gold quantity has been realised from the sources should be published and tracked in subsequent publications, otherwise, it leaves room for thievery festering continously, whereas people are suffering and dying while entitled to the same resources others are enriching themselves with.
The Arab countries are availing the proceeds to their people, of these resources their grandfathers resisted in their struggle to preserve for their grandchildren just like our grandfathers did for us. But for our own, our privileged elected and maneuvered servants are not servants but always constantly upto a certain ploy to mislead to look good when they are not.
What a country! Where indecency is largely the order of the day, churning out mischief. I have always thought those who have travelled to see the good attributes and behavior of the developed countries should atleast have an iota of decency but those are the worse.
It's terrible.

Mr Bentil does not know what he is talking about. No private company has been allowed to ship gold for export since somewhere in 2024. Therefore every buyer trades with pmmc or Goldbod. The difference however is that in 2024 some of the foreigners were allowed to purchase and then pmmc would export for them. That gave them the opportunity to dictate price at black market rates and also declare a small quantity for export whilst the large portion was smuggled out. They had 30 days within which to repatriate the forex for each export hence they could play games. In the current dispensation all foreigners have been barred from the local purchases and pmmc/ Goldbod has been using local buyers who don’t have the option of exporting and hence have no control on the forex. Pmmc or Goldbod does export solely and repatriates the forex in less than 72hours
