Ghana should be named the "Gyimii nation on earth". Tweakai, Ghana, and there are people born with head on their neck who believe this "nkwaseasem" John the clueless Mahama is pushing on them. What is the meaning of this? These are some of the reasons some people are calling the military to take over the country which I do not support anyway but at times.
During Nkrumah's time, some section of the economy was working 24/7 but it was demand and not a policy launched by Nkrumah. We have had that till today when a foolish creature like Mahama is telling Ghanaians that there is a policy called "24-hour economy".

The look on the faces of those present says it all. No body believes in this policy. It’s safe to say it was just a political gimmick to win power. The government is now trying to make the policy make sense. Oo Ghana.

What is all this noise about the 24 hour economy. Production is determined by demand and supply. If demand exceeds supply producers are likely to work more hours to meet the excess demand. Prices are likely to go up and profit margins increase. However, in a country with high unemployment and low demand due to low levels of purchasing power it is not certain that a 24 hour economy will produce the expected results. Besides, the infrastructure to support a 24 hour economy is not there. Our road networks are extremely poor, the electricity supply is erratic, our work ethics is nothing to write home about, excessive noise making which could make it difficult for people to have a confortable sleep after a night shift, etc. etc. A 24 hour economy can not be a political decision. Rather, it is a decision determined by market actors based on demand and supply.

He said government will be facilitating and not dominating. He also said it will be powered by the private sector and coordinated by government. In summary, this is no different from the 1D1F vision into a so-called 24 hour economy plus. He's shifting the promise slowly. The promise was to run three shifts in government departments. Beyond the grammar and gestures, he sounded like he was still in the campaign mode. You don't lunch a policy with nothing to show. Anyways, this is the lunched the 24-hour economy policy, not the program itself. We want to see the program running, not just the policy. As for the policy we have heard it bazillion times. The private sector running 24/7 isn't new. What I expect to see new is the how government will integrate the three-shift system to public sector to eliminate the unemployment they promised. Lastly, before promising to unleash millions of land for irrigation along the Volta lake, has government done the environmental impact assessment? You can revive the 'Osagyefo' dream with the assessment he did over 60 years ago. It doesn't work like that. I know for a fact that even without heavy irrigation the Volta lake is virtually dry along the northern stretch in the harmattan season. Do excessive irrigation and the Volta lake will be history.

This situation is driven by demand rather than policy. What does Ghana actually produce? Is this government genuinely serious, or are they just telling Ghanaians something to believe in? I recall back in the 80s when we used to walk freely at night; now, people are scared to go out after dark due to the skyrocketing crime rates. Furthermore, many streetlights are not working. While I don't entirely blame the government, as they have pointed out that Ghanaians have short memories.
