This "Prof" should take it cool. You are not conferred the title professor without have worked for it. In academia were these titles are awarded, you need to be a senior member ie (PhD). You are then promoted through the ranks from lecture(starting point), senior lecturer, associate professor and full professor. These are all achieved through publications (the most important criteria) before other factors are considered. Those days where a Masters degree holders were senior members (30+ years ago). You could have been a professor without PhD. You still had to publish before you can get that title. Now which of these has he done to be called a professor?

Haha! Let's talk about those books and publications—it seems they might not hold much weight in the academic world. It's evident you may not be fully acquainted with what constitutes genuine scholarly work, so I’ll have to respectfully decline engaging further. The materials he has presented are subpar, and anyone could easily whip those up in a matter of months and claim the title of Professor.

In academia, especially in Africa and notably in the UK, there are rigorous standards for what qualifies as legitimate books and publications for professorship. If he truly wishes to be taken seriously, he should present at least one publication indexed in WoS or Scopus. Only then can we even begin to consider his qualifications for a lecturer position in Ghana, let alone that of a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor. As it stands, he lacks any such credentials, and it’s clear to those with a discerning eye that his profile lacks the authenticity one would expect from a true academic. But it seems that some, who do not fully grasp the nuances of academia, might still choose to praise him.

Professor is a tenured rank earned through teaching at a university level and going through the ranks from assistant professor, associate professor and then professor. However, there are three criteria for promotion in Universities i.e. peer reviewed publications, teaching and community service. A professor must demonstrate exceptional outputs in ALL these areas.
While he is strong in teaching and community service, he has next to nothing and weak in peer reviewed publications (journal articles). No credible university will make a person like that a professor. Even the way he has cited his publications shows his weakness in the most important criterion for becoming a professor... peer reviewed publication.
A good accountant? Yes. A professor? hmmmmm.

It is quite intriguing some of the ill-informed discussions about this issue and the conclusions being drawn. First of all, the title Professor is an academic rank and NOT a degree. For this reason, unlike academic degrees, you earn it through a promotion process and NOT by conferment. To earn it, you should demonstrate a scholarly contribution to knowledge through a rigorous process (based on the British format) including publications that are peer-reviewed at the highest standard among other requirements as well as an external assessment process. For the benefits of those who are not familiar with this process, in most universities in Ghana (public or private) you need to first be promoted to the rank of a Senior Lecturer with a minimum of five (5) peer-reviewed publications, followed by a promotion to the rank of Associate Professor with an additional minimum of seven (7) peer-reviewed publications, and finally to the rank of PROFESSOR with an additional minimum of nine (9) peer-reviewed publications. This should informed everyone than in Ghana, to earn the rank of PROFESSOR from any GTEC accredited university, you need no less than twenty one (21) peer-reviewed publications to merit consideration for such promotion. I should also add that in UK and Europe where such academic systems are commonly used (from whence Ghana adopted its academic system), the requirements (although varied) are even much higher than that of Ghana's. I am not in a habit of placing judgement on people's academic credentials but using the list of publications presented (assuming all are peer-reviewed and of high standard), it does not meet the minimum number of publications to warrant the promotion to the rank of Professor in any proper University in Ghana. Secondly, the promotion to any academic rank (and particularly in the case of Professorial Ranks) is done with an official letter from the highest governing body of the said University. I am therefore surprised that this individual instead of providing such a letter to buttress his claim of holding such a rank rather chose to give GTEC a history of academic and professional life (a CV). It is indeed an affront on academia for anyone to indiscriminately use titles that are not earned rightly so. Let a sanitised system prevails in this country before we wake up one day and everyone doubt the title Dr. or Prof. Thank you all for your understanding.

His accusers do not expect an Akan or more specifically an Ashanti to be a "Professor". Asante man is supposed to be a cocoa farmer so his income could be use to sponsor others education. Remember, University of Ghana was built on the back of cocoa farmers, majority of them at that time were from Ashanti, Western Ashanti and Western Region.

Do you remember when these so called "smart" bureuacrats will award Cocoa Marketing Board (CMB)scholarships to their kids whilst denying same to kids of cocoa farmers. Remember when they vigrously persuade college applicants with Asante names like Ageman Dua to pursue Agric Science even though their grades qualify them for their first choice at the medical school. Ask them why and they will tell you none of your parents or relatives has ever been a medical doctor so stick to the line of occupation of your parents.

The story of EdwardDua Agueman has some.issues. The University where he was awarded a PhD in 2013 made him a Professor in 2014. This does not add up - Professorship just one year after Doctorate. It looks vague. He should have done well to provide a copy of the letter that conferred the Professorship on him. Was there any evaluation of his credentials before such Professorship. The College making its Doctoral student a Professor just one year after doctorate is questio able. GTEC should.bot accept this explanation from Dr. Agyeman.

As he rightly said a first degree holder can be a Professor. My course director at London South Bank University was a Professor and a Master degree holder. GTEC bury heads on the sand. Having a lot of publications in substandard journals does NOT make one a professor. Even having publications in top journals alone doesn’t make one a professor. One must have high impact publications, teach CV lasses, and contribute to the community, among others. Each university’s criteria could be slightly different.

Unrelated to this issue, but someone said above that this man was collecting (actually DEMANDING) BRIBES from companies for audits. If true, then it’s very sad.

The days when FAKE credentials were used by any unscrupulous persons is over. Now, one can verify credentials very easily.

There should be a letter of promotion to that effect. I don't know why some Ghanaians are so desperate for unwarranted recognition like that. Ah.
