Please have mercy on them. I remember a similar incident that happened many years ago when l did my National Service at Lassia Tuolo JSS. Almost half of the school run away to go look for dawadawa.

I was a conformist but joined in taking a dip in the sea. Seniors come by to bring us to school for punishment . We yet persisted until the seniors joined us in the water.

From next Month July and finish in September and the report stated clearly that, when they have papers their parents should accompany them and after the exams go back with their wards. Clearly you should understand that, rather they have been deboardenised but not dismissed as students. Go home, stay with your parents and do whatever pleases you but when you are in Bairding House obey the rules, because if anything untoward happens to you, they school authorities could be held accountable.

They can be asked to scrub, weed, collect rubbish or write 5000 times I won’t do that again. Dismissing is too harsh. Authorities should re-consider their decision. In punishment emotions should be left out. The punishment should be a corrective in the end for them but not destroying them. Do you want to be armed robbers? Dismissing them what future are you giving to these young people. These students if nurtured well will be profitable to the business community in future because they are risk takers. Give them second chance and see you will proud of them in future.

The real people who deserve punishment are being left off the hook. How come twenty students left campus for hours in day time and it was not detected by the school authorities? The headmaster, housemaster and the school security must be held accountable. The sudents too are equally traumatized by the lost of their friend and are broken by the incidents. They have leant their lessons in a hardway. The leadership of GES must quickly intervene and investigate the circumstances leading to disappearance of the students from campus without detection of the housemasters, and the school head. The school authorities have taken haste decision to cover up for their own negligence and lack of supervision. The school is under obligation to account for every student all the time and 20 students left campus unknown to the school management. We the citizens and students must call for accountability, and reinstate the dismissed students. Indeed, discipline starts from home and does not there. When the school decides to keep children, they are required to ensure the safety and protection of those children.
