Inasmuch as i want the Ghana Armed Forces to expand it's personnel and fighting force it's incumbent on the government to first of all priorities the infrastructural and logical needs of the Ghana Armed Forces which is at an all time low. There are critical questions which needs to be asked and answered before delving into the recruitment and enlistment process
1. What is the state of the Army Recruit Training School at Shai Hills: the answer is,it is at a very poor state with wooden structures serving as classrooms and accommodation which is not befitting of any serious Armed forces. The Ghana Military Academy at Teshie in Accra which trains commission officers has been given all the priorities to the detriment of the Army Recruit Training School at Shai Hills also in Accra which churn out non-commission officers (soldiers). The widening gap needs to be bridged.
2. What equipments ie weapons,uniform, webbings etc are they going to train with. Currently the equipment state is at an all time low.
3. Feeding, how will they be fed? Is it going to be the usual Ghana Army Reserve Item(GARI )? No that's not acceptable.
4. Accommodation: where will they be accommodated?
5. Instructors: are there enough smart,intelligent and fit instructors to train them ?
6. Welfare: welfare of soldier instructors have always 7. Upon completion of the training, where will they be housed? Accommodation is terribly poor with soldiers living in 19th century dilapidated buildings and even those awkward housing systems is pathetically not available pushing soldiers to rent outside of the barracks which is highly unprofessional and detrimental to the discipline of soldiers and the ability to get quick responses when the need arises.
8. Are there enough Equipments? The answer is a big fat NO. Command for reasons of 10% keeps on procuring sub standard weapons, uniforms and equipments for use by the military. No serious army in the 21st century will because of greed and personal benefits procure 3rd grade items especially weapons for use by it's military. All those past and present leaders who are into thievery should bow down their heads in shame. Prioritizing only personal interest and the interest of the officer core is backwards, colonial minded and can best be described as tomfoolery and stupidity.
Until are these questions are answered positively,the Recruitment process should be put in a freezer.
