Phase 1 of the new one was built and commissioned in 2011. Remember Kuffour had given those lands to his friends, including Chief Justice Georgina Woode, after the international students hostels were demolished there. It was Atta Mills who reclaimed the land and gave it to the Foreign Ministry.

Nana Addo commissioned phase 2 of the building which is largely the conferencing facility.

We rather choose to source everything from outside: instead of say using our own locally generated revenue from our consolidated fund to build the edifice or the project, we rather went borrowing money from India, and instead of contracting local contractors, we went shopping for another from India.. and instead finding a local architect we went for a foreign architect!
WHAT A CONTRY!
WE ALWAYS APPEARS NOT HAVE ANY SENSE OF LEGACY, NO SENSE OF IDENTITY, NO SENSE OF SELF RESPECT, AND NO SENSE OF HONOR AND DIGNITY.
FMR PRESIDENT WAS VERY RIGHT AND OUGHT TO HAVE BEEN APPLAUDED FOR THE INTENT AND FACT THAT HE DID WELL CONCEIVING THE IDEA OF BUILDING OUR OWN PRESIDENTIAL PALACE, A NATIONAL SEAT OF GOVERNMENT, BUT IT WAS TOTALLY WRONG, TOTALLY OUT OF PLACE AND HIGHLY UNACCEPTABLE TO HAVE SUCH A SYMBOLIC EDIFICE OF NATIONAL SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPORTANCE DONE BY BORROWING MONIES FROM OUTSIDE, SOURCING FOREIGN ARCHITECT AND CONTRACTORS, TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE WHEN WE HAVE UNIVERSITIES TRAINING AND PRODUCING SUCH HUMAN RESOURCE, MANPOWER, AND TECHNOCRATS WITH THE REQUISITE SKILL PERSONNEL AND WHATEVER TO ENABLE US DEVELOP ECONOMICALLY, TECHNICALLY, SOCIALLY ETC WITHOUT OUR HEAVY RELIANCE IN OTHERS, BUT NO!! A SOCALLED "INDEPENDENCE CONTRY".
IN ANY CASE IN TRYING TO PUT UP SUCH A. Yes, Mr. President, that free facility from the Chinese Government was initially met for the Ministry of Finance but Ken Ofori Atta and co. rejected it and Ayorkor Botchway had to convince and lobby the Chinese Embassy in Ghana to switch the grant to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She actually lobbied for it, and got it. That’s a good one from that Minister then. You know, if there is no kick back in it, Ken Ofori Atta would never accepted it.
