It's most likely these politicians bring in these illegal miners. How can 2 people commit the same offense and government ask of their nationality before prosecution? Does that deportation cover illegal miners from African countries as well or is determined by the skin colour of the offender? If this is our thinking then why do we waste our time celebrating independence Day? If this trend continues, not too long people would be prosecuted based on their sex, tribe, ethnicity, political affiliation, etc.
In any case, was this deportation of foreign illegal miners approved by parliament?
One thing is becoming clear in our Ghanaian society - our laws don't deal with foreigners living in Ghana. Whilst a Ghanaian iced water seller would be forced to pay market tolls, all foreign hawkers (mostly from the Sahel) are exempted from paying market tolls. They publicly hawk illicit drugs on their heads but nobody touches them. Those engage in nail trimming I are everywhere using the same unsterilised tools on every customer spreading diseases. Begging in public places is illegal but we find thousands of foreign beggars including babies on our major streets in our cities. Can our politicians, immigration officials, Ghana Police tell us they have not seen these beggars? There are a lot of foreigners riding pragya in Ghana without driver's licences, what are we doing to our country?
