I had a biopsy appointment and it was done within two hours and I went home the afternoon that I arrived. Biopsy as you explained is done to take a small tissue sample to check if you have a prostrate cancer and in my case I didn't have prostrate cancer. Unfortunately, we're comparing apples to oranges. What the Ghanaian doctor is saying doesn't contradict the letters from Mayo Clinic. Yes, biopsy is done in a day but the type of biopsy Ofori Attah underwent was MRI-guided biopsy. So, it's not the same as the one done at the ward in KBTH. Then, after the biopsy, prostate cancer was detected and immediate surgical intervention became necessary. The surgery is scheduled for June 13th but the biopsy was done in March. So, what's so difficult to understand? SMH ... hatred is a very dangerous thing ... why can't the doubting Thomas' call Ofori Attah's doctor for clarification? The doctor provided his phone number, for crying out loud, in the letter and stated that anyone with further questions can reach out to him. This is just common sense but unfortunately, common sense isn't common to everyone.

And above all, though an elevated PSA, in March at his age might not necessarily mean prostate cancer, it is difficult to accept Mayo Clinic will wait till June to do MRI-GUIDED BIOPSY. A procedure that can be done in a day! This is a Center with massive support in every aspect of Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment. They don't drop the ball!

THE KBTH NEUROSURGEON IS CONFUSED
It is easy to understand: 1. Examination and MRI showed the suspicion of cancer. 2. Biopsy performed 3. Results confirmed presence of cancer 4. Surgery required for treatment 5. BUT the incisions (cuts) that were made during the BIOPSY have to heal before the SURGERY can be done. 6. Then after the surgery there must be some healing before the patient can travel by air to Ghana.
What is it that the KBTH neurosurgeon can't understand about this fundamental/elementary explanation? Of course an UROLOGIST is the specialist for PROSTATE cancer.
The BIOPSY was done in March. The cuts have healed. The SURGERY is due in June. After healing from the surgery Ken Ofori-Atta shall fly back to Ghana.

My Gleason Score was in the highest range. Treatment modalities for prostate cancer in the US include surgery, chemotherapy and cyber knife (radiation therapy). I opted for cyber knife at Georgetown University Teaching Hospital (Washington DC).
Before I began the cyber knife treatment, the physician inserted gold markers in the prostate. This is a surgery under general anesthesia. Once this was done, I was scheduled for cyber knife. Cyber knife will take about a month and long follow up visits to my primary care physician, urologist and my oncologist. It is therefore disingenuous for the neurosurgeon to generalize treatment modalities. I’ve also done cervical and lumbar fusion within a span of three months for a congenital stenosis. It was done by a prominent neurosurgeon at Georgetown University Teaching Hospital. The KBTH neurosurgeon should not be confusing his Ghanaian audience because he is not a urologist! Most importantly, the KBTH neurosurgeon does not know if Ken Ofori Atta has some underlying medical condition.

Well done and thank you Dr Habib Mohammed for telling the TRUTH. As you have stated, I have undergone the same procedure in the UK as well at King George's Hospital in Goodmayes in London. I had a biopsy appointment and it was done within two hours and I went home the afternoon that I arrived. Biopsy as you explained is done to take a small tissue sample to check if you have a prostrate cancer and in my case I didn't have prostrate cancer. So Ken Ofori Atta is lying to the intelligence of ALL GHANAIANS.

Be a physician and refrain from mixing politics with professional opinion, unless you have a subdued political ambition (hidden trait in display). You also failed to mention that, depending on the complexity of the biopsy, results may take at least 2-3 days while complex cases may take weeks (simple biopsy: 1-3 days; complex cases: 5-7 days; cancerous cases: 2-3 weeks). It may also become necessary to undergo additional tests if cancerous cells are detected before treatment begins.
My issue is, the man was in Ghana for at least 8 weeks upon his last return, so why couldn't the prosecutor discuss all the pressing issues with him? He cannot be a prisoner in Ghana while working on his health, sorry but learn to do your job efficiently and stop issuing useless red alert for a person who has not been charged with any crime.
