So Professor, you sincerely do not think that the cedi appreciation has nothing to do with external forces? Other experts think so, you have to come clear,it is not compulsory to speak if you have nothing to say.

The appreciation of the cedi againts the US dollar and other currencies calls for comments, if the cedi remains upward it will disturb influx of foriegn capital for investments on infastrucres and real time developements. Let the Cedi remain 10ghc to 12ghc to $1US while Canadian dollar remains between 9ghc to 10ghc. Other currencies could also be regulated to allow sustainability of the economy. If the Cedis continually depreciate there will be shortages of essential and necessary imports of goods we can't produce within six months in Ghana which will can derail the progress of the economy. Mark this on the wall.

Thanks@Boachie, you seem to be the only one here who understands the dilemma facing investors. This NDC aligned professor is making sense. I have acquired land to build a factory in Ghana but sadly cannot continue with it. The sudden swing of the cedi means capital set aside for my project has suddenly lost over a quarter of it's value. Goods and services have suddenly become too expensive for me to continue.

The level of immaturity in your response shows a lack of common sense and critical thinking. If an investor builds infrastructure and invests in Ghana who do you think benefits with jobs....local Ghanaians. If Ghana attracts investment, increases exports (which haplens when.the Cedis is cheaper) then the economy can grow in a sustainable way rather than these artifical and non sustainable appreciation of the cedis.

If the goods and services do not go down, it makes a little sense for the Cedis to appreciate. It makes it more expensive for investors to bring dollars for business. Because you need to change more dollars to get few Cedis

At present exchange rates, the cost of local food in Ghana is greater than in the US and in Germany. There is too much speculation in the market. Stability of the cedi requires competitive local food prices. The appreciation of the cedi has much to do with the appreciation of the gold price during the recent years. Ghana should not sell it's gold to stabilize the cedi. Ghana should accumulate gold as a national asset for the wellbeing of future Ghanaian generations. The wealth of Ghana should not be squandered on consumption.
