If it can give him the popularity he will use it. It it means the reputation of Ghana is damaged in the international community he doesn't care . To him its collateral damage to achieve his aims. If it means innocent people like the Foreign Service staff at Washington who have all being tarred with the same brush calling them criminals and sending the back to Ghana for no wrong done will have their careers damaged, tough luck and sorry guys. You were in the way.

Unfortnately this way of doing things at a level of a Miinister will only end in lots of tears for both Minister and those around him!

Tell your crybaby, immature Ablakwa who wants people to know what he is doing just because he made so much noise in opposition about corruption. Tell him he is now a diplomat and that he should change his style of communication (talk less and only when necessary). It is not everything that he sees or uncovers that he should talk about neither does he have to inform the general public of whatever action he took to resolve the issue identified. He thought that he will be hailed for the good work done but he does not know he is painting the country dark. Even in very advanced democracies, all these corrupt practices exist there, in different and higher grades, yet they keep them quiet, seek the perpetrators out and punish them.

As for him, any issue is a funfare or a political rally to score cheap political points.

Kwasi, there should be nothing discreet about this. Such discreet practice was what happened when some corrupt Ghana Airways officials were pocketing proceeds from the airline in BWI in the USA. People knew the officials from Ghana Airways were stealing from the airline. People kept quiet and grumbled without reporting. So those miscreants continues with their looting until the airline was banned from operating, resulting in teh collapse of the airline. Kwasi, I don't think you ever went to the Ghana Embassy in Washington D.C for anything. If you had, you would have known the type of people to deal with. The corruption had been going on for years, and thank God Ablakwa had the guts to expose it. So there should be nothing discreet about it.

Do you know how damaging to the morale this accusation is to innocent staff at the Embassy, and the damage to the country's reputation.

6 years ago there was a story of a fake US Embassy Annex at Osu where real genuine visas are issued. It was a rogue US Embassy staff involved. We never heard of the case again and beither did the US Govt shut down the Embassy.

The culprit was removed by the US Govt . Its simple you do not wash your dirty linens in public. That does not mean you dont wash your dirty linens at all. You only wash them in private so your neighbours and enemies dont see them to use against you!

In Ghana if we don't expose the corruption to the public, the politicians and the prosecution will simply sweep it under the carpet and there will be no accountability. The accused will be able to bribe and go scott free. The exposure does not dent the image of the Republic but rather show that this gov is serious with fighting corruption. The corruption at the embassies and consulates were all know to anyone who has dealings with them and despite numerous complaints, the authorities were able to keep it under the carpet because of the money involved. The criminality is not a secret. Most western countries know exactly how corrupt African countries are. The difference between corruption in the US and Ghana is that in the case of the US, the corruption is usually individual and once exposed he will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Whereas in Ghana the corruption is institutional where everyone is involved and shared the loot. Most of the time the prosecution is unable to successfully prosecute the case either due to bribe or incompetence.

The best way to deal with corruption in Ghana is to expose it to the public and let the media and public keep the pressure on the prosecution to make sure that justice is served.

For your information in 1996 thereabout obe Mr. Binney a Foreign Ministry Official in Geneva was caught by the Swiss Officials dabbling in cocaine. The Swiss govt requested that the Rawlibgs govt should remove his protection for prosecution. It refused and instead recalled Mr. Binney home, had him prosecuted and sacked from the Service.

That is how its done. What stops the Minister from just recalling the suspect home and having him tried. Is ge not part of the Founders of ORAL. Has anyone prevented ORAL from conducting investigations.

Is he not in charge of all the documents of the crime to hand over to the police the same way he did with the Cathedral documents. Did anyone stop him from doing so. Couldnt he do the sane without damaging our reputation in the international community.

Why are we so good and adept in covering up corruption in our midst? Our embassy in Washington, USA, has been turned into a "den of crooks", and it is the crystal truth which must be told to all.
The Ghanaian public have the right to know the truth about their disgraceful international representatives.
Our national football team, The Black Stars, brought similar international shame on Ghana during the World Cup held in Brazil, and that was not to be "covered up", right?
Our schools have been graduating thieves, looters and murderers and we must do all it takes to uproot that destructive trait among us rather than "covering it up" to deceive ourselves and the global family.
