There’s no one straight route, and university education is not the only route to become a lawyer in the UK. History indicates that legal education in England started with apprenticeships in the courts and law chambers, somewhere in the 13th century, until 1836 when the University of London started offering law degrees as an addition to the apprenticeship route.
