Ghana does not practice price control. Business must simply respond to the positive change. Alternatively, consumers will have to choose where they shop from. Buy less and the prices will begin to go down.

The recent cedi appreciation is a laudable idea. But I feel that the rate of appreciation is too fast and may distort it's impact on the local economy. The only people benefitting from the rapid fall of the dollar are the importers. Foodstuffs are still expensive, and so are medicines and fuel prices.
Apart from the sale of gold nothing has changed fundamentally in the economy.
So whatever is happening behind the scenes this rapid rise in the value of the cedi has disincentives.
The dollar became weak because of poor tariff policy in the US, but the slide has stopped. Ghana has not reported any significant growth rate in GDP or any new initiatives to increase the standard of living. Therefore there should caution in our desire to obtain a strong currency overnight.

Private sector Manufacturers and Exporters, are under threat from this strong Cedi, and will lose their overseas markets as well as local market to "cheaper" imports. Ghana will lose investment and jobs.

Ghanaians understanding of business is just to make profit every second no matter the prevailing conditions. This is the reason we are all struggling. Imagine the dollar went up to 20gh, traders would have immediately increased their products to a price that will enable them to maintain their profits in their next importation. Business is about satisfying your client and keeping them. You can sometimes go into business to just break even for the sake of your clients. This is why Nigerians do better in business than Ghanaians. Nigerians look at volumes than huge margins per product, that is selling about 200phones per week at a margin of 100gh per phone than selling 3phones in a week at a margin of 300gh per phone. The dollar and other major currencies will continue to fall with the kind of discipline we are seeing in leadership.

So the big business traders are still selling at the old price as though nothing has happened and the people with dollars have to change their dollars at almost half the new price and purchase goods at the old price.
The price has almost doubled. The owners of the big business shops are making a massive profit they take all the plentiful cedis and buy dollars at a cheap price .
So if you had your savings in dollars then you can say about 40% of your money is gone into the pockets of the greedy traders who refuse to reduce their prices.
So if the traders reduce their prices they can go buy dollars the same like before but if they maintain the old price they are getting plenty dollars at the expense of the people. LEGAL STEALING
