The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has announced that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) will now be required to make budgetary allocations to cover their electricity consumption.

He made this statement during a meeting between the Energy Committee and power sector agencies on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

The minister emphasized the need for MDAs to take responsibility for their electricity bills.

"All MDAs are required to pay their electricity bills. They must include this in their budgets. This directive applies to the health sector, education, security agencies, and even the presidency. However, in the health sector, only laboratories, theatres, and wards will be exempted," he said.

"In the education sector, dormitories and restaurants are excluded; only lecture halls are covered. We have categorized these areas, and once Parliament approves the classifications, we will publish them," he stated.
