Unfortunately Jet, you turned the economics upside down - rather, if people rush to buy dollars at the Forex bureaus or rush to withdraw their dollar savings, there will be higher demand for the dollar (i.e. cedis chasing dollars) which will cause the dollar to rise again (at least per the rules of demand and supply). I must say that the move will be good in the long run, however it shouldn't be news at this time that the cedis is making such good gains. Currently, people are still bringing their dollars out to get cedis (more supply of dollars chasing cedis means lower prices for the dollars and higher demand and price for the cedis).

That's how the rules of demand and supply work.

But our country Ghana, Even my grandmother can also sell something to you in US Dollars. Lands are now sold in US dollars, Estate Houses are sold in US Dollars. I received salary in Dollars but if such measures will bring sanity into our economy, why not. Please let us all think about Ghana because if our country is good we shall all be proud of it. An example is Singapore. The country is good and beautiful but its citizens don't fancy US Dollar likewise Australia.

The reason people are encouraged to deposit hard USD is that the government wants to blot dollars from the markets and keep the banks liquidity holdings high instead of individuals keeping these at home. Then all of a sudden government realizes it has to steal the dollars and give them cedis upon withdrawal on their own exchange rate terms.
Now who is going to deposit USD into their accounts again?
Government is now going to direct forex trade traffic into the black markets where we will all be going. And I bet you the black market trade is going to boom.

When Ken Ofori Atta wanted to clamp down on black marketeers was it not this same Adongo and our NDC that lambasted him and he had to stop?

I am now convinced that the cedis appreciation has nothing to do with any policy initiatives of the BOG.
Rather I believe that payments have not been made to contractors and energy debts are not paid.

One thieving government has replaced another.

Let customers start boycotting the banks. It is useless to have confidence in the banking sector. Governments steal our monies and the banks are too weak to protect customers. The banks have become enablers.
