At best he can say you can't throw birthday parties in offices or public places. Or better still advise against such. It is a free world and people must have the freewill to do as they please within the law. Is the law against birthday parties? The law is the law!

If my people could learn how to cook some decent meals in our homes to sit around and enjoy with our immediate families to observe our anniversaries, whilst taking stock with our Creator for His kindness to us, then we all know we can go safe along that path.

Why is it that nobody knows the birthdates of the patriarchs: Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, Solomon etc? However, birthdates of all Egyptian Assyrian, Babylonian , Persian, Greek and Roman emperors are known and documented. It is because these people exalted and regarded themselves as gods and demanded worship through these celebrations. So apostate Christendom will introduce December 25, the birthdate of the Sun god, as Christmas and the whole world will follow.

Of course there is no law against politicians in particular, throwing "lavish" birthday parties. However, in every family, association, institution and even in countries, there are, for good ulterior reasons, unwritten codes of conduct which evolve for the mutual interest of all concerned.

For instance in a given household, there can be a silent code that, for obvious reasons, demands that everyone should wash their own plates after eating. For the same reasons, in a work-related institution, there could be a silent regulation that demands that all employees should turn up for work neatly dressed. Likewise, many religious institutions insist that female members are not allowed to wear dresses which are shorter than above the knees.

Why is it that we don't ever hear of much wealthier politicians in developed societies throwing "lavish" parties for themselves? One can recollect the public battering that Boris Johnson got for organizing a drink-up for a few office colleagues during the Covid period.

Let's face it. The bottom line is that parties - in particular birthday parties, are events that are organized by the more affluent members of society and if President Mahama wants to distance himself and his govt from that unpalatable perception of unbridled materialism which the previous govt has become notorious for, why should this be something that people can't understand?

I for one, I can't understand how or even why a whole matured adult of 50 or 60 or 70 years, would want to organize a LAVISH birthday party to celebrate anything at all. I even find it disturbing enough how we organize loud, raucous, boozy orgiastic funerals - much more, lavish birthday parties.

We must understand that once we offer ourselves to take up political office, we must concurrently understand that we must discipline ourselves and restrict some of our personal foibles from causing political uproar.

I must add that as badly disappointed that I got from the below par performance of Akuffo Addo, I am beginning to even lower my defence against politicians on account of President Mahamas extraordinary performance in only 4 months. I just love the guy and I hope and pray that he keeps up the momentum.

Just cast your mind to the Creation till date and study the trend for yourself and you will notice that no follower of the Creator ever committed this abominable act. Three birthday celebrations recorded in the Bible all ended in bloodshed: Pharaoh’s birthday during which his baker was sacrificed, death of John the Baptist and the death of all Job’s children in a single day. Even King Solomon, when his heart was turned by his wives from God, never considered celebrating one. There is not a single record in any historical account. That should tell you something. I have friends and families who are struggling to make ends meet. They keep pressuring you to support them pay rents, kids school fees, hospital bills etc. Then when it is their birthdays, they have the guts to ask you to send them money to celebrate their birthdays. Misplaced priorities or sheer dimness? When the occasion is a notable milestone, a moderate close family and friends gathering would suffice and within budget. But to go that extra mile to show off just to prove a point or to court validation from society smacks lack of confidence and inferiority. When you look around the world, the real rich and famous who genuinely earned their cash don't do things like that. There are people who are unfortunate in life by no fault of theirs who will benefit immensely from the cash splashed on these drinks, food and entertainments. Let's all do a self assessment and be open minded about this call. The pros surely outweighs the cons.
How long are we going to wallow in our mindset and find it difficult to process different and tough ideas?
