Oga, I see no truth in this one. She's just out to discredit the program and also reveal her tribalistic and selfish heart that stems from that false sense of entitlement associated some parts of the country. She seeks to suggest it should concentrated in certain regions because of "poverty". Is poverty limited by geographical boundaries? Go to her Zebilla and see the kind of development ongoing there. They cheat and loot from their own and then court other people's sympathy.
Hasn't free SHS sent girls from those regions to others? Is she saying the girls need go back to their regions to collect their pads and then return to school every month? What of the poor in Accra and Kumasi? Or everyone in Accra is rich even in the slums?

These people have made poverty an industry where the northern elite use to milk others dry.
Come to the north and see landcrusiers, pickups and motorbikes. Every house has atleast one motorbike, a very expensive item and a symbol of material wealth.
Don't be deceived that the north is poorer than elsewhere...they get free education since independence, they get free tractor and agro input distribution as well as vast lands they can.leverage on.
In northern Ghana, their rich elite do not know about philanthropy, or doing charity work for their compatriots. Their Rich do not donate or share with others. It is alien to them. How many of their Rich men and women donate to support others?
How many have built schools, dormitories, or donated busses etc to their alma mater schools? In southern Ghana you see people celebrate their birthdays with orphans, donate food items to Prisons or cleaning materials to hospitals. Madam MP stop there, see what your colleague MPs do in southern Ghana. I am using the term Southern since she introduced the concept of Northern in her letter. Over here in the north it is a big deal and we the southerners are hated and discriminated against.

What is the guarantee that all these girls will actually return to school after receiving the free pads? Many of those in the northern regions are more interested in migrating south to engage in the kayayo business. It is the extreme poverty in the northern regions that must be addressed first. The lady MP could be right after all.

But on the sanitary pads I agree on reviving cotton production but production of sanitary pads should be localized and make a key performance indicator for ur prisoners some of the abandoned factory premises can be turned to factories
Take these building away from the churches and Chinese businesses let’s make use of our numerous prisoners government should task the prison service to come out weaning itself from government subventions within one year

The best way to start solving rural-urban movement in my opinion is to have fixed salaries for public servants irrespective of the region, district, community and village they serve. This will allow free rotation of public services across the country. For example, if in Accra a primary school teacher is paid GHC 2500 as basic salary per month and the same is paid to a primary school teacher at Savulgu, do you think the Savulgu teacher will like to go to Accra and teach? But, the primary school teacher in Accra may like to go to Savulgu and teach for economic reasons, likewise the Savulgu teacher. There are many regions in Ghana where food stuffs are cheaper comparatively but cost of living are higher. Although, the idea of fixed salaries for public servants in short run cost the government a lot but at the long run beneficial to the public at large. It could also reduce Kayayo as mentioned. The opportunity cost of a nurse from Accra working in Bolgatanga will be cost of not having relatives and friends nearby, and the opportunity cost of a Bolgatanga nurse working in Accra will not only be the cost of not having relatives and friends nearby, but also the advantaged cost of living in Bolgatanga.

It is just easy to criticize good initiatives especially if they emerge from the people you dint like. I admire her meticulousness in identifying a funding gap between the budgeted amount and the "Real amount". too easy to do. On the opposite side of things, as a woman and an MP she has a role to play in filling the gap at her constituency . She should not wait for it to occur. Again, proposing that the policy should target the 5 northern regions as they are the poorest.
