To start with, Tema is a melting-pot of non-indigenes and off the top of my head, I would dare opine that there are more "foreigners" living and working in Tema than those he describes as indigenes. I would also confidently guess that if one made an assessment of the prolific economy of the metropolitan port-city of Tema, the larger share of it can safely be estimated to be in the hands of the said "foreigners". So if the larger portion of all socio-economic activity of Tema is in the control of "foreigners", why should "foreigners" also not be considered as active participants of the political administration of this great city?

I also think that the reference of fellow-Ghanaians (oops) as "foreigners" is most unfortunate and distasteful for a society that considers itself not only as homogenous but emphatically as democratic.

The fact that Tema is a melting pot of persons from all over Ghana, Africa and the world, should be considered as a huge advantage that should be exploited as an opportunity for massive development. Raising troublesome tribalistic issues as to who is an indigene and who is not, is unhealthy and unwholesome for a metropolitan society. I can understand or appreciate it if a non-urbanized (ahem!!) and therefore, a non-metropolitan district area insisted on indigenes for political administration but not Tema, which geographically, holds the singular distinction of actually being the only city in the world that can be described as being positioned at the center of the world.

So to our respected traditional authorities, please know the demographics of your area of jurisdiction within the circumstances of a rapidly changing world.
