They need your passport to register a pay-as-you-go service...they take copies of your passport on paper....your driver license, any government issued documents...doesn't matter if it's a USA green card....they register your sim card with all your 10 names on your document than to take what's actually relevant as in your first and last name and leave your middle and other name(s).....the country creates the r99m for fraud. Stupid, lazy and extreme illiterates making copies of you passport or driver's license, what do you expect?? It is too easy for any criminal minded 9r fraudster to discover your full name as it appears in your passport because our personal data is left in the hands of illiterates...most places, they keep scanned copies of your driver's license or passport for verification purposes when you are only supposed to just look and compare......bank tellers all do the same...they take copies of your IDs to verify your account....in sensible countries...they just look on your ID to match what they are required to verify on the screen then hand back your IDs...in Ghana they need to photo copy....this has been going on for decades...no government or leader saw it as an identity theft and fraud opportunities. MTN works with foreign partners and knows about security and data protection but if the country is that stupid...why not make the citizens more foolish?
