The reason is COCOBOD, which pays the farmers far less than the market price. The margin between the market price and what COBCOBOD pays farmers are partly stolen, through questionable single source contracts, partly squandered by incompetence and bureaucratic largesse. Ghana would greatly benefit if the COCOBOD was closed and the farmers could freely decide who they want to sell to, to which price and in which currency.
