Oh nooo!!! Very sad to be in Africa. Here we are with so many languages of our own countrymen and women which we have not finished learning how to speak. We haven’t even started. I mean, we can’t speak each other’s language in our own backyard and what our education framers are thinking of is a foreign language! What foreign language again do we need after English and French? Haven’t we become foreigners enough in our own country? If we are speaking each other’s language in our country won’t the hatred for other ethnic groups outside our own lesson, if not eliminated? Oh, how I wish that I learned Hausa or Dagbani in school so I could mingle freely when I’m in the north; or better still speak Ga in Accra or Ewe in Ho. Here we are, complete strangers in our own country and what somebody is thinking of is another foreign language?
Elsewhere, education is framed to make their citizens confront and/or solve their own challenges but not in Africa - where once colonised, always colonised even if there is no need for such a status quo to maintain.
I totally object to another language for our children learn in school outside English and French. Even the English and French, how well are we speaking it these days anyway, not to talk about our indigenous ones? Please, Hon. Minister, I plead with you in the name of God or Allah, save us the heartbreak. I think we have enough of such heartbreaking things going in our country already - corruption, galamsay, destruction and depletion of our rich natural resources. Teach children what would make them good citizens in Ghana not foreign language again. Foreigners will not come and build Ghana for us no matter how well we speak their language.
There is too much inter-ethnic conflicts in our country Hon Minister. If I were the Minister of Education, I’d rather make it compulsory for all Southerners, for example, to learn two Northern languages and vice versa. Then we would stop fighting and start talking together and solving our problems together.
In case it’s Arabic you’re thinking about, we can offer that in Islamic schools whilst we allow Christian schools to introduce Hebrew, Greek and maybe Latin for their students. Remember, whoever wishes Ghana well should always think of fairness in our multi-regio-ethno-socio-political context instead of any parochial interests.
A word to the wise, they say “is in the North” (lol).

We import onion , tomato from Bokina and you are happy. I will be happy if you tell us that from Tamale ,Yendi Zabzugu, Tatale , Saboba, Kanden, Gushigu, Bembila etc are going to learn how to farm Yam well for export .

What you are doing is very dangerous to Ghana. Already these advanced countries are poking our best human resources with scholarships. Did the Chinese who are destroying our forests learn Dagbani before coming. At best the students can learn the second language in SHS 1 and drop it when they get to SHS 2. There are so many square pegs in round holes in Ghana, we seriously need a national development agenda.
