He has been in power since January the 7th, and he has not made any attempt to implement a single policy but rather raided the homes of his opponents and revoking the appointments of workers.

  20 years will not be enough for most of these incompetent and corrupt leaders who are only interested in themselves and their cronies. 4 years is more than enough for any competent leader to create an impact.

  We have adopted the 4 year tenure system because we Africans don't think. We just copy from others without an in-depth analysis as to whether or not what we are copying is applicable to our reality. The 4-year tenure system was adopted from the American system forgetting that the named system is relatively new even in America. Congress limited the Presidential term to 4 years and a maximum of 2 terms in reaction to Frankling D. Roosevelts successive wins as President (Roosevelt won the Presidency 3 times and ruled the U.S. from 4th March 1933 - 12 April 1945) which triggered a reaction from the Republican Party as Roosevelt was a Democrat. The U.S can afford to limit the Presidential term to 4 years because at the time the decision was taken the U.S was a fully developed industrial power house with a first class infrastructure, medical and educational system etc. We in Africa are not there yet. Our leaders need time to implement our development agenda. The 4 year term may be good for America but not for the developing countries in Africa. Instead of 4 why not make it at least 6 years and a maximum of two terms.

  What about the USA term of 4 years. It is not how long you stay in power. It is about how effective your performance is during the period given. Assuming Akufo Addo were to run a 6-year term. By the close of the term, he would have sold most Ghanaians into slavery given background to his over-borrowing, profligate spending, raping the forest, buying state assets, employing his family members to high offices, building cathedrals and cemeteries, etc to the detriment of schools, hospitals, creating real jobs, settling our domestic and external debt, reducing the high cost of living, etc. Please, tell this to Nigeria, with all respect.

  @Louis. The fact that Akufo Addo could be in power despite all the shortfalls listed above is a reflection of the weakness of our so called democracy and judicial system. If it were to be in an advanced democracy with an impartial judicial system, Akuffo Addo would have been impeached and removed from office. Furthermore, Akufo Addo could do what he did due to the ethnic nature of politics in Ghana. Tribalism is deep rooted in the Ghanaian society and Presidents know that irrespective of their behaviour they will still have followers from their ethnic group. Furthermore, they stock the supreme court with judges loyal to the Presidency. Hence, the duration of power is irrelevant until we resolve our governance issues.
