If this asset is going to somehow be engineered and gifted to a politically connected person, then we will be better off renewing the lease for goldfields to manage it. We can negotiate for GoG to own a higher percentage but we have to admit that as things stand we do not seem to have too many legitimate, tax paying, financially disciplined business men and women in Ghana who can manage this. Look at Asante Mines. It’s a joke.

to run this by hiring professionals and paying industry competitive rate?
Or Let the entire mining be owned by the Government of Ghana and hired an engineering firm with track record to mine it with formula for proceed sharing?
Can't we learn a little from the Arabs?

Political people will hijack the process just like GIJOC sale and we all know the consequences.Chirano Gold Mines a mess know only the current gold proves have saved them .
Real Ghanaian mining entrepreneurs must build their own mines and run
we can look at the Botswana model too or the Ethiopian Airlines model which are success stories. Mining is capital intensive there is a difference between a service company and operating a mine.We have so much Gold Iron Ore Bauxite to be mined by ourselves from scratch.

We should watch out message we send out to foreign investors. So many sectors need foreign investment but we need to structure proper deals. Some may be Joint Ventures Majority or minority owned with foreign firms.

Gold Fields started operating the Damang mine in 2002, and not 1997. The mine was previously owned by Abosso Goldfields Ltd (AGL), who started the mine in 1997.

Somethings fundamentally wrong. Shouldn't a lease ending in April ought to have been renewed at least 6 to 1 year ago?? The company is badly managed.
