By the time most people go on retirement, ideally, they may have worked for between 35 to 40 years and during that 35 to 40 years they couldn't transfer whatever organizational memory they have but need an additional 2 years to transfer that organizational memory?
So the question is "What exactly were they doing during the 35 to 40 years of their working life in terms of transfer of organizational memory?
This issue of Contract after Retirement is what is leading to the increased rate of unemployment in our country.
As a country if we have realized that there is no succession plan within the Civil Service, let's create one immediately. What are all the Human Resource Management and Development Technocrats in the Civil Service doing all this while?
I also can't say that the services of retirees are not important or not needed. In the regime of Entrepreneurship, where even fresh graduates are encouraged to start their own businesses, I personally believe that whatever these retirees have under their sleeves could be channeled through private sector consultancies and not to remain in mainframe Civil Service whether as Contract Staff or In-house Consultants. Once upon a time a Retiree was contracted for several years even up to when he was 70 years just because it was said that he was the Only One in a Metropolitan Assembly capable of writing minutes at Assembly Meetings.
Our youth must be privileged to benefit from their seniors whilst in Active Service and not when they have been Spent. Whatever the seniors have under their sleeves must be transferred to the younger ones before their Retirement.
The River of Employment Must Flow for Seamless and Smooth Transition.
