Sometimes we criticise the government without thinking carefully why it acts that way. When you keep foreigners in jail in Ghana, the government spends money taking care of their accommodation, food and medical expenses. Why shouldn’t they be returned to their countries to serve their prison terms there?

Yes it does cost to detain them but being incarcerated in a Ghana prison would be a rude awakening for them. To not want to return or reoffend.
If we had smart legislators they could put in place a means of billing the non national convicts or their countries of origin. Maybe confiscating their assets, like mechanical, diggers and properties to offset the costs and as a deterrent.
Or put in place a program in which they serve their sentences in their native country at the cost of taxpayers there.
If you had such an arrangement the chinese government for instance would start treating their returnees differently and not as innocent heroes

Yes we should be smart and make sure deportees don’t return. Our systems are too weak and all sorts of people take advantage of us.

Exactly the question Manteaw asked, "are Ghanaian offenders less human?" Do you mean to say that the government doesn't spend money on accommodation, food and medical expenses of Ghanaian prisoners? If that is the way government wants to go, as soon as a foreigner is caught doing galamsey, they will the show their national IDs or passport to qualify for deportation. No serious nation will make this announcement even if that's what they intend doing. Is Muntaka a Ghanaian?

Are you seriously saying that it costs the state very little to jail Ghanaians involved in GALAMSEY? Look, politicians are involved in GALAMSEY, I believe. Why are they finding it difficult to fighting GALAMSEY? No government (NPP or NDC) wants to prosecute the leaders of GALAMSEY, why? The government knows who these leaders are. Is the government making primary school investigations or what? I hope president Mahama will not disappoint Ghanaians. Everyday we are hearing words like investigations and raids, but no outcome, no action, no detention, no prosecutions and no positive charges. What is that? No government wants to put a ban on GALAMSEY, why? Why? Ghana needs a bigger demonstration all over before settings can be done. Probably we need to invite the military to come to our aide.

Even if they change their names and passports, an efficient Biometric system will expose them. Having said that, these criminals must be jailed with hard labour and then deported to their home countries.

You (CSOs and the government) have all lost your bearings on the galamsey menace. Shame on you all. Were you (CSOs) not in cahoots with the NDC, now in government? Why complain now?
