For all those who are taking about King, you better understand that a King should have a kingdom and that King is the ruler and leader of that kingdom.

For example in the UK where there is a King, the whole country is ruled by the King hence has no president but a Prime minister and upon forming majority must submit to the King. If for any reason the King decides not to work with him/her a new leader would automatically be elected. The more reason why the King's portrait is on the currency.

Is it the same with Asantehene, No. Asante used to be a Kingdom but upon Ghana gaining independence and into a Republican state, all the Kingdoms surrended their sovereignty and came together to form a state with the president as their ruler and leader. So it stands to reason that there is no kingdom in Ghana per our constitution.

So when Dormaa killed Obiri Yeboah, the was no Asanteman. It was afterwards that Osei Tutu organized other rulers to join forces with him to form Asanteman.

They even go to the extend that Dagomba. Moshie, Gonja. Frafra are all ASANTES EIII. Go to the annal of Ghanaian languages nomenclature and see the distinction- Asante, Bono, Banda. DEG ( Mo), Dagomba. Frafra are separate tribes and languages. My grandfathers used to tell us in the 70's and 80's that before we had independence, we were under Asantehene and independence Dr. Kwame Nkrumah gave us set all tribes under Asante free and that Asantes used to visit the Paramount Chief until everything STOPPED when we had Freedom ( Fahodi) and they don't come back and we don't even allow them into our palace anymore. This is what my Grandfather Paye told me and it is true because no Asante comes to that palace growing up. Then now a new Asantehene in the name of Otumfour Osei Tutu II or Nana Kwaku Duah want to subvent the Independence everybody had to say the places belong to him Asantehene. That was and it is passed and NO MORE. Greece, Roman, Persia, Egyptian Empires came and gone. Old Ghana, Mali and Songhai came and gone. Dagomba Kingdom, Moshie, Oyo, Dahomey which Asante came to meet had all their land limits now. Why Asante want to undermine our independence and Republic where Bono were there before Asantes migrated to go and farm, hunt and trade and stayed in those Brong- Ahafo land for him to be claiming for Asantes upon a whole region named after his tribe Ashanti Region. Remember also the Western Ashanti created by the British was not because those were forever Asante land but for purpose of the INDIRECT TAX regime of General Lugard model. Even the Aborigines or indigene's of Brong and Ahafo area resisted the name western Ashanti and Ashanti Confederacy before we had his total Independence from FOREIGN imperial rule and ASHANTI imperial rule. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah cannot be blamed by Asantes that he separated the Brong Ahafo from Ashanti. The pure truth is the people of Bono, Ahafo, Atebubu never accepted the Asante name over them and severally PETITIONED the British against Asante domineering over them. The PETITIONS continued from Techiman, Dormaa, Domaase, Atebubu to deliver them from the HEAVY HANDS of Asantes over them. Both the British and the earlier Kwame Nkrumah Government thought the Asantes and Bono's were the same people since Bono's were involved in most of Ashanti wars except 1900 Yaa Asantewaa or the Golden Stool war. The PETITIONS continued from most of the Bono states until Dr. Kwame Nkrumah formed Nene Mate Kole II commission of 1951 to look into the grievances of the BONO People and non-Akans in the then Western Ashanti. The revelation from the Commission report was damning- 1. The Bono's were treated as SECOND CLASS citizens in the region. 2. They were being mocked by Asante and Kumasi royals over their tongue and language. 3. They were being made to pay heavy taxes to Ashanti coffers. 4. They were being cheated from. developmental project from the colonial British. 5. Asante implanted their royal on Bono land and towns to expropriate their land eg Awua--Domaase, Berekum, Nkoranza. The commission recommendation is legendary today with a definite statement - IF THE ENTIRE COUNTRY SEEKING INDEPENDENCE FROM IMPERIAL RULE THEN THE BONO'S CANNOT BE SUBJECTED TO ANOTHER FORM OF IMPERIAL RULE OF ASHANTI. The commission recommended total independence for Bono and non Akans in that region and asked the Government to separate the Brong Ahafo from Ashanti for the independence, self rule and their own region. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah should be praise by Asantes instead as he didn't handle the demand of the Bono people haphazardly but by through a REFERENDUM in the then Western Ashanti and they VOTED MASSIVELY with over 90% to have absolutely nothing doing with Asantes, Asantehene and their sikadwa and through a Certificate Of Urgency they were granted their own region called BRONG-AHAFO REGION. BRONG means Bono people and their neighbors as Bono were not subjugating their neighbors. All the Bono states after their independence from imperial Asante vowed to never swear to Asantehene and his Sikadwa and Nana Abrefa Mbori IV of Wenchi was the first Chief from Bono not to have sworn to the Asantehene and since then no Bono Chief have descended to Kumasi to swear to Asantehene. JB. DANKWA UGCC DECEIVED ASANTEHENE- In the quest for vote in the 1951 plebiscite J.B. Dankwa made a desperate appeal to Asantehene Prempeh II that should he win he will make the Asantehene the Head of State of Ghana and his Political leadership as a Prime Minister, unfortunately JB UGCC lost the election miserably and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah never accepted JB recommendation for Asantehene to be the Head of State as most tribal Kings and Paramount Chiefs would not had agreed with making one tribal head the Head of State. This is one of the reason Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was pathologically hated by Asantehene. PROBLEMS AFTER KWAME NKRUMAH- After the overthrow of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his CPP Government, Gen Akwasi Amankwaa Afrifa, the Coup plotter was bizarrely honored by the Asantehene as the Okatakyie of Ashantiland for his part in overthrowing Dr. Kwame Nkrumah government with a stool name. A tragedy of the highest proportion with Asante blaming the Bono, Ahafo, Banda and DEGA ( Mo) total freedom from Asante, Asantehene grip to the wit and intelligence of the Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. According to internal sources from Asantehene Palace, they considered the Bono people as UNCIVILIZED who could not seek for their freedom and their own region had it not been the super-intelligence of Kwame Nkrumah. THE BONO'S PROBLEMS TODAY- AFRIFA after being honored by Asantehene, being an Asante himself decided to reestablish Asante Hegemony over the free Bono people. AFRIFA threatened the Bono chiefs to come under Asantehene verbally without constitutional amendment. For his 3 years as the military leader the Bono chiefs had to meet under Asantehene chairmanship. Then AFRIFA handover power to a Bonoman Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia deceiving the Bono's that they were better off under Asantehene than the freedom they themselves sought and gained under Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, causing the Asantehene to hurriedly pronounced most of his allies in the the Brong Ahafo region as Omanhene ( Paramount chiefs) without realizing the Asantehene has no power over them after independence. Under Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Asantehene could not install, make any chief Omanhene ( Paramount Chief) in the Brong Ahafo region because the independence constitution, the Brong Ahafo referendum and certificate of urgency limited Asantehene only and ONLY to Ashanti region. Independence is both Political and Traditional. WEAK BRONG AHAFO HOUSE OF CHIEFS- The Brong Ahafo House of chief did not put in place the process of uplifting an area to Paramountcy, allowing the old system to remain for so long without modification. Area chiefs who had reached metropolitan State with many Sub- chiefs who are supposed to be Paramouncies were neglected and many has to REVERT to Asantehene to achieve Omanhene or Paramount Chief status. This weakness re- introduced Asantehene in appointing and uplifting certain chiefs to Omanhene who will be natural ally to the Asantehene than Brong-Ahafo House of Chiefs. TODAY'S POLITICS- In search for numbers most of Ghana major Political parties since 1992 are not able to tell Asantehene and Asantes the truth and they are allowing the bickering to go on allowing Asantehene to say he own Bono, Bono East usurping the Independence and Republican instrument. The truth must be told for Asantehene to desist from the separated former Western Ashanti as Asante was limited beyond the PRAH river by the British. CONCLUSION- The Gonja's has a proverb that even the dead want numbers. If the Bono region, Bono East , Ahafo continue to intimidate others states without upgrading them to Omanhene, Asante will welcome them because Asante need numbers. If you don't want them uplifted to Omanhene, Asantehene will uplift them to Omanhene. The Bono, Ahafo and Bono East is not a Unitary Traditional State like Asante but amalgamation of individual equal people so caution should be taken in handling such a delicate matters than one showing powers over the other which naturally does not exist. If Bue lee laa ( Branam) a Deg ( Mo) village who used a Mo deity Teow to help Wenchi against Asantehene Osei Bonsu was granted an Asante Island without the bigger Mo knowledge and later granted Omanhene status by Asantehene, what is delaying the Bono Regional House of Chiefs from granting SEIKWA, MANJE, BADU, SAMPA, FIAPRE an Omanhene status for that long time since they are different tribes. Land boundaries cannot be issues since they are indigenous people. Both Politically and traditionally Asantehene and Asante was limited to Ashanti region after 1957. Upon all the ignorance of the then Brong- Ahafo House of Chiefs the independence constitution, the Brong Ahafo referendum and certificate of urgency still limited Asantehene to Ashanti regional land no matter what Gen Afrifa said and did. Yes, some Asante travelled and establish and settled in those areas like Awua Domaase, Berekum and Nkoranza. Funny Nkoranza people traveled to farm and trade at a Mo/DEG own town of Kintampo and now claiming part of it. A character of Asante migrants. Finally, the Bono, Ahafo and Bono East houses of Chiefs should come together and uplift all other sect to Omanhene for unity and oneness. My Asantehene too should concentrate on a big region curved for him and realize the British even took the southern part including Akyem, Assin, Twifo away from Asante in a No Referendum than a genuine constitutional referendum that legally separated the Brong-Ahafo area totally from Ashanti. Ireland separated and had it independence from Britain in 1922 and it accepted legal and final up to date. I admire Asantehene for his part in solving some difficult chieftency issues at Dagbon -Yendi and Bawku conflict and should not be the same to create conflict in Bono and Bono East since they got independence from Asante in 1957 and finally 1958 and finally the entire country became a republic in 1960 from any form of imperial rule and subjugation both foreign and local.
