Congratulations Gen Agyapong. However, I have some reservations. Throughout his profile, I have not seen any of his appointments as being a brigade commander, formation commander like a commandant at any of the military schools for senior officers; not even a General Staff Officer. Yes, it is a great achievement for him to be a chartered accountant, but please, a service commander, in his case an army commander or CDS should have commanded a brigade, a sector command like northern etc. A chartered accountant is perfectly fit for PG&C as it used to be called those days. Honestly, I thought those recently outgone commanders wouldn't be changed because I remember EVEN akuffo addo maintained Sampson Oje, Nagai, etc. Why didn't JM maintain these professional generals to at least finish 3years? Back to the current CDS, please, if truly he hasn't commanded troops on a command scale, then it looks like gradually the appointments of our top military commanders is getting out of hand. Granted, a new president appoints when he is convinced by himself and also advised by his advisors, but certain basic and traditional practices must not be overlooked. There is a reason why all over the world, it is even documented as a policy that an army commander can only come from the infantry, engineering, signals, artillery, or airbone. The airforce and navy also appoint only pilots and ship pilots and captains as their commanders. Recently on ghanaweb, someone too complained and expreesed disgust that an ordinance officer had been promoted to become a Lt Gen. I could feel his sentiments because I knowfor sure that certain trades are not to go beyond a certain rank. I stand to be corrected on an ordinance officer belonging to or not belonging to the command class of officers. So with aaaall those senior retired generals surrounding JM, none of them could advice him on appointing say a jungler, paratrooper, armour or artillery hardened general? I saw a comment above mine, someone asking about Alobawone Atogabakoga. Wow! That guy, very brilliant. Received the sword of honor from Jerry Rawlings. Topped his class at academy. Don't know him personally. I'm even surprised he is still in the service. He is one guy i've been looking out for to see how he will turn out due to his high performance at academy. Thought he had retired looong ago. Been too much on the low or quiet. Please Mr President.

One of these days if care is not taken a president will appoint a short service officer as CDS. We will wake up to hear that a medical doctor, pharmacist, dentist, supply and transport officer has been appointed as CDS, whilst an airforce equipper, engineer, or air traffic controller has been appointed as the airforce commander. Well, we already have a chartered accountant as one now, just that he commissioned as an infantry officer.
