What does this man know about the military? He should understand that Cols and above retire on their pay so what financial implications was he talking about? Only allowances and other emoluments will be calculated for the years left and added to their gratuities. By the way retirement age for a Maj Gen is 63 and that of Lt Gen is 65 and most of these officers are close to their retirement age. Ntim Fordjour should know that Mahama .made that mistake in the past by retaining Lt Gen OB Akwa who was made the COAS after his Comdt appointment at Kofi Annan only for him to be retained as the CDS by Akufo Addo who sees OB as one of their own. Does Ntim Fordjour know the harm that this decisions caused the Armed Forces? It stalled the progress of the system and the younger officers were rather going on compulsory retirement as there was no vacancy for promotion. Fordjour is not a subject matter expect so he should rather concentrate on his pastoral and parliamentary duties and stop displaying his ignorance.

A Division is usually commanded by a Major General and consists of around 10,000 to 20,000 soldiers. At most a 2 Star Major General and Brigadiers to command the Brigades is enough for the Ghana Armed Forces. The Generals with 6 more or so years to serve are 55 years and above.

In the military, when a junior is made CDS, all his/her seniors will automatically retire before the junior resumes work as CDS. So the president has smartly retired all the General senior to the new CDS.
