Please if it was Dr Danquah who did his research and proposed the name Ghana,please it was Dr Nkrumah who gave the name Ghana to this country. Please at lndependence on 6th March 1957, when Dr Nkrumah announced "At long last, Ghana your beloved country is free for ever"...., Dr Nkrumah announced to the whole world our new name "Ghana ". Please all the documentation relating to the change of name from the Gold Coast to Ghana was done by Dr Nkrumah and his CPP government. Please the name Ghana was given to this country by Dr Nkrumah

The name Ghana was the title for the Kings of the Kingdom of Ouagadou (often refered to as the Ghana Empire in modern times), and not really the name of the Kingdom/Empire. It could be said to be similar to 'Nana' or 'Naa' in our present time. The name of the state was QUAGADOU (but sometimes refered to as GHANATA), with KOUMBIE SALEH as the capital major commercial city of the state. The state was founded by the SONINKE also known as SARAKOLLEH, a MANDE speaking ethnic group presently found in southern Mauritania, eastern Senegal, Gambia, and Guinea. I have often wondered what present day Ghanaians really share with those people, by way of History.
In the latter years of the Kingdom, the kings are said to have run the kingdom down through their 'mis-rule'.
