True, this is an excellent idea but the question is who has the brains to promulgate it? I have always suggested that even a private hospital fully equipped with state of the art medical equipment and medical staff can be built in Accra to cater for private patients In Ghana and the whole West Africa. There won’t be any need to fly anyone from west Africa to India and other western countries for treatment. People will pay a fraction of the cost here to get the same treatment. This is a big business that can generate huge revenue for the owners and cost savings for the country and beyond.

@Joko, it appears you didn't appreciate the import of the Professor's suggestions. The state pays the medical bills for the President and senior public officers at both local and foreign health facilities. Of course your point would been correct if the affected public office holders paid their medical expenses from own pockets. Anyway, I think the Professor's admonition that our leaders should prioritise equipping our health facilities to international standards is in the right direction.

Prof, that is extreme without exception. The rationale being that this country's medical infrastructure is up to the west standard. We know this not to be so. There surely must be medical procedures that cannot be handled here but we cannot emplane all Ghanaians suffering such ailment abroad. However, as they say, even in the animal kingdom there is selectivity. I guess we may need a committee of professors to evaluate and determine if and/or whether a politician's health state merit overseas treatment.
