Degrees are paper certification it doesn't make anyone an organization but open one to be able to perform a task with minimal supervision. Selling koko is a job, its the provision of a service on exchange for money, so is writer trying to proof here?

You are right . Why say the man “ditched” degree to sell koko. He didn’t ditch it. Holding a degree doesn’t mean you should do white collar job. My best friend has a masters degree in finance but has always been a hands on person. He runs an auto mechanic shop in Accra where he works with my hands with his boys. He hasn’t ditched his degree ; he gets to apply many things he learnt in his business delivery.
Let’s do well to reshape our minds and thoughts in regards to the type of work we expect highly educated people to take on. Indeed We need more educated and skilled people in our blue collar sector. We need guys in carpentry, mechanics, painting, building, plumbing , gardening etc . Look around you ; many people who have attained higher education and have blue collar jobs are doing so well for themselves and in their industry. That indeed is the engine of growth for Ghana at this present moment.

Is Hausa koko not good food? When we eat hausa koko and koose, is it a disgrace? If he was running a restaurant that serves international dishes, perhaps Ghanaweb would say he has done well. I have university degrees and I drive my car sometimes to the koko seller to buy breakfast and bring it home to eat, so what is wrong if someone with a university degree sells the koko?
Sadly in Ghana, a lot of local things are looked down on. I think the association of the name "Hausa" with the koko furthermore makes some tribes look down on it, even though they enjoy eating it. Even the word "local" has become a bad adjective to us because it refers to "originating from here". We need a renewal of our thinking here. The whites are proud of their local things.

I am in agreement with you, we share the same thinking, Ghana and Africa in particular, has natural resources that need a hands on practical approach to development, there is a NEED for more Blue Collar than White Collar. You can be a doctor, lawyer etc all day everyday but, if you don't have roads, electricity, and a good water system, how can you operate?
We NEED to come up with an education system that REFLECTS the resources that are in the country, and create industries from that. I also think, that we NEED to push for the revival of Kwame Nkrumah's defunct factories. Purchase the buildings, build/improve infrastructure around it, install NEW equipment and technology and employ people to manage and work it. The time is NOW, lets ignore the elders and do our own thing.
