The few ghanaians who can officially be taxed are bearing the burden for all the folks in the informal sector whose children go to such schools and financed by tax revenue. I suppose it's ok to borrow money to continue financing a politician's promises.

  What is all this noise about Free SHS boarding? Already, Secondary school is free for tuition since government pays all teachers, its only the boarding fees that the students pay which is expensive and the illegal charges by the school's management pre the Free SHS implementation. And government took the boarding fees and tried stopping the illegal fees charges and also pays for uniforms and paying what the schools management call interventions.
  Any attempt to ask parents to boarding fees is going back fee paying, The US and UK referred to in his statement have almost equal performing schools at every community but same cannot be said about our schools and so students cannot be forced attend day school in their communities and besides, there are no enough secondary schools in most of our communities and hence students have to select boarding schools.
  And for the fact that ones parents are poor, doesn't mean the person must go to a day school against his/her wish when ministers and other government appointees enjoys lavishly at the expense of the state. Money must be found to cater for the students no matter what since government cater for his appointees no matter what..........

  Kwame Nkrumah setup boarding schooling for good reason....to integrate Ghanaian society. It was not just to teach children. The boarding school has contributed largely to peaceful co existence of people. It was also to let children have same level of social education, how to tie a necktie, use cutlery, lace shoes, dress hair ( for women ) etc etc. Some children don't have lights or space in their homes to study...boarding gives them that. It's cost paid by taxes not from any politicians pocket. So if the NDC goes about promoting day schools or parents must pay for boarding and feeding tells you they don't think deeply what they do.
  I don't like Nana Addo and free SHS was badly done but he had a very good idea not like what NDC is trying to do. Day schools is a very bad idea. It is start of social classification and previledged education. Day schools will be for poor people.

Just do this math since you said you are an intellectual 275paliamentarian x a minimum of USD$150,000 per each for only 1term regardless of the number of times you have been an MP. This is a shame to have failed to call for the statistical findings of the housing deficit before such an outpouring ,a stand that will prevent many of the students from having a good and comfort place of study. What is good for UK and US might not be good for Ghana-you can not do an experiment ,conclusions and solution under the temperate economy wich is well structured and developed and then plant it in the tropical Africa developing economy. The reason why i argue that Ho people be made to pay property rate before benefiting from any gov. support for flood victims if this is what my dear uncle has to tell Nana Addo and Ghana students at shs level.

A systematic and consultative approach would have been more beneficial beyond the mere enrollment of teens to get into boarding facilities that is akin to a "prison" camp. There are some people who should not be allowed anywhere near executive power.

  It very pathetic when we keep comparing the developed world to ours, they paying for their wards because they have good salaries and a good working conditions that put them in the right position to pay. What at all do the ordinary Ghanaian benefits as a Ghanaian? Those politicians living and driving in luxury cars. Paying their selves huge sums of salaries the little we the less privilege has to benefit the politicians finds a way to twist all over again. Always it the ordinary Ghanaians suffer.

  It's true that USA, Canada and European countries don't offer free boarding schools. Such schools cost a lot of money to cater and sometimes became haven for school children being gangsters. They don't learn and don't respect parents. In Ghana we should invest this free boarding and free feeding money to build more school classroom and Teachers accomodations. Even Teachers allowance should be stop to raise pay.

  It's unfortunate some people sit somewhere and write anything without carefully and critically examining the content of their write up.
  1. Hasn't the system been funded in the former three northern regions of Ghana for over 70 years? Whoever from that part complained and crucified it. Ocassionally there were challenges but eventually every debt was settled.
  2. With its implementation consider it's impact, especially with the number of people who were appointed from HE. John Mahama's new government; very qualified technocrats. Look at the media landscape, lawyers medical professionals, Universities loaded with so much people of Northern descent and yet the writer could not suggest the policy should rather be scrapped in the north and implemented in the Southern part of the country. In my view every family in the North now has someone who can support his or her kindred financially in their education. No wonder they tease Ashanti's of Kate because majority are educationally limited except for trading on the streets.
  3. If the North has some handicaps still then all because those who have been uplifted have failed socio-culturally as they settle in major cities down South without any impact on their own brethren.

So many people earn income in Ghana but repuse to pay taxes, so the govt should go all out to get them to pay and ther will be enough to finance free boarding SHS.

  He’s speaking wisdom but y’all don’t want to understand him. Free senior high school would have been an absolute success if it was implemented in way that seems like scholarship for good students. Students who passed with aggregate 6-19 get to enjoy free SHS, this would even challenge them to learn harder. Ghana can provide free education but not at this time.
