  If having debt means "broke", then let it sink in the heads of Ghanaians that we have been broke since independence. So, there shouldn't any political connotation and correlations here. Because there has never been a time in our history that we paid all our debt. However, I am tempted not to accept your definition because having debt in itself doesn't make a country broke, and I expect financial analysis like Joe to be educating people holistically instead of making sporadic commentary which feeds the propaganda mills. The true status of an economy reflects not just what is owed, but the size of GDP and other economic indicators. If you borrow to invest (and even freeSHS is an investment) it's the returns you get that matters the most and ought to be taken into consideration when analyzing your debt.

  As far as I can conjecture, if a government begins running the affairs of the NATION that has given it the mandate to wisely and properly make things better, but instead chooses to run the economy of that NATION down, thereby taking that NATION economically way back, several decades, then that government was either bribed to do so or did intentionally, out of GREED and SELFISHNESS, seek to destroy our dear NATION for their own PAROCHIAL interests. Such evil and wicked behaviour must be intensely opposed, and attract severe repercussions. The laws of our NATION - Ghana, must crack its punitive whips. My humble viewpoint. RESPECT THE PEOPLE! Shalom.
