The Bank of Ghana is considered as an empire whilst the Governor and his immediate aids as untouchable royalty. As for the Board, it seems like it is designed to malfunction or rather dysfunction as most other Boards do, in this country. It is more or less an eye-wash institution where cronies of govt are detailed there just to enjoy some of the most unbelievable perks and largesse in this part of the world. The tenure of the last Governor was probably the worst in recent memory.

On the contrary, I think that the President has done a huge disservice to Beatrice Annan by dumping her there in the bank. Beatrice is a prolific emerging politician who should have been slotted in one of the more political institutions - even if as a deputy Minister. She is an active thinker for the betterment of society. Being thrown onto the Board of the Bank of Ghana is like being condemned to work in the UN. You will be overpaid, underworked and completely disoriented from the toils and travails of mainstream society - especially that of Africa. Having observed Beatrice for a while in the recent past, I even wonder if she will survive the distance amongst these soft-brained academics and technocrats.

Anyway, the composition of the board with Adongo (accountant now parading himself as an economist), many lawyers shows that NDC do not have the men (macroeconomists, monetarists, and public finance experts). Mr Gockel, a former BOG employee in the early 1980s who became Drs Johnson Asiama and Maxwell Afari's lecturer in Money & Banking at both bachelor' and master's degree levels at Univ of Ghana, should have been made the Board Chairman.

First an MP is appointed as MD of NADMO and now the governor of central bank is chair of the central bank. Where are the men who spoke for the party on economic matters in opposition? I know the minister of Finance have an automatic seat on the BoG board. So in that instance, the governor who reports to the minister of finance on key monetary policies will now dictate to the minister whose interest mostly is variance to the governor. Interesting times ahead. Let's get ready for super inflation and cedi depreciation. We can play with all appointments but not that of central bank
