After 68 years of independence and with all our universities we still don't know how to construct and maintain roads across the country. Where are our civil engineers? How long shall we continue to depend on others for our national development? How sustainable is that? What structures are we putting in place to ensure that Ghanaian civil engineers can construct and maintain the roads we are going to build? Are there any legal frameworks in place to prosecute road contractors for poor construction and poor maintenance of the roads? If contractors don't keep to the time-frame stipulated in the contract for the completion of a project are they prosecuted in court? It took almost 6 years to complete the 23 kilometers Sokode - Ho highway in the Volta Region. Can we develop quickly as a nation if it takes that long to construct a 23 kilometers road?

Why are we spending so much money on our universities if they cannot help in building the nation. It is high time we put a demand on our academic institutions to contribute actively in rebuilding the country.
