When the President of America travels, it doesn't mean the Vice President becomes acting President. It is only when the substantive President cannot function (for instance when because of a surgical procedure, he is put under anesthesia) that the Vice President becomes acting President. And why do we still call her Professor? No president of Prime Minister or Minister is referred to as Professor.
