This decision by the erratic and unpredictable American President to stop USAID could turn out to be a great blessing for countries like Ghana. It would force us to evolve from the status of a beggar nation living on handouts to a nation of people able to stand on their own feet and achieve great things for ourselves through our own effort.
It would also force Ghanaians to hold their leaders to a much higher level of accountability- bad leaders would be kicked out and honest ones with a heart for the selected selected and elected.
The starting point is for the ordinary man and woman in the street to appreciate the importance of
1.BECOMING MORE HARDWORKING: every working Ghanaian needs to start taking their jobs and assignments at their places of work very seriously, being on time and not leaving before closing time, those in leadership positions need to start leading by example and cracking down on absenteeism and on lazy and sloppy or careless workers. In contrast to many so-called developing countries, most Ghanaian workers don't work hard enough or long enough- that is the painful truth.

2.INTEGRITY & HONESTY: Honesty and integrity at home is critical for the development of any nation. Stealing or abusing and misusing work place resources is one of the ways to hold back the development of a society and a whole nation- people who do this can be rightly called Nation Wreckers or Saboteurs

3.HAVING LONG TERM VISION AND AMBITION: In countries such as Malaysia, Singapore or Indonesia ( I use these countries because they started their modern statehood after a period of colonization and at about the same economic level or worse than Ghana at independence but have now developed their countries to an extremely high level; China stands out on its own and takes this rapidity of development to an even much much higher level and as a result has become the premier economic superpower of the world based on Purchasing Power Parity GDP); In all of these countries Education is much priced. Parents will economize, sacrifice and live very frugally in order to ensure that their children get the best possible education, under a disciplined environment.

4.LEADERS ARE HELD TO A MUCH HIGHER LEVEL OF ACCOUNTABILITY THAN IS GENERALLY FOUND IN OTHER DEVELOPING COUNTRIES (including Ghana): The rule of law is really respected. There are very serious consequences for indulging in vices such as bribery and corruption or the misuse of state resources or performing very sloppy work- penalties range from losing one's job (and livelihood) to the death penalty for select economic crimes (e.g. In China)

5.TOP PRIORITY IS GIVEN TO BUILDING VITAL INFRASTRUCTURE THAT ALLOW A NATION TO DEVELOP RAPIDLY : For example the above countries all gave massive priority to quickly developing very extensive networks of excellent roads as well as other forms of transportation such as rail ,river or maritime- these greatly increased trade and the movement of goods and services which in turn caused a dramatic rise in the earning power of the average citizen. Other vital infrastructures prioritized in these countries include nationwide electrification, supply of safe or potable water supplies, effective sanitation for all and the development of highly effective Medical services that penetrated even the most rural areas of their nations.

6.LEADERS WITH VISION AND COURAGE AND A HEART FOR THE PEOPLE: With very few exceptions we have until now been cursed at every level with bad leaders who only occupied their positions in order to enrich themselves ,their families, friends and cronies. It is up to Ghanaians to start to weed out these rotten eggs by demanding a very high level of accountability from our leaders going forward. WE NEED TO HOLD THEM TO A VERY HIGH STANDARD OF CONDUCT. Unexplained wealth must always be investigated.
May The Good Lord help Ghana to achieve these goals. God does not give handouts but rather gives us opportunities and it is up to us as individuals and as a nation to grasp these GOD-GIVEN OPPORTUNITIES (AKA "BLESSINGS")

Besides, the Government of Ghana waste more than *$150 million* in months so *USAID* is just a mustard seed not even peanuts for "the poli-trick-cal elites" who enjoy these largesse. We should develop our resources to earn better revenue from them and stop the *waste and thievery.*

The Government of Ghana spent *$100 million* on a national cathedral which is has no foundation... now the most expensive swimming pool hole in the world after demolishing *10 six-bedroom apartments of court of appeal judges, Passport Office, Judicial Training Institute, the Scholarship Secretariat* and other edifices.

• Ghana earned *$11.6 billion* from raw gold exports last year. The Bank of Ghana disclosed the figure in a report dated January 24, 2025

• *$3.9 billion* from Non Traditional Exports

I think we should be very careful about these numbers. The USAID support were largely out of the budgetary process of Ghana and included their consultants and employees and the cost of running their operations. This provides an opportunity for GoG to undertake its processes more efficiently and effectively using public servants already on the payroll. The areas where additional resources may be required would therefore relate to direct supplies cost, especially in health sector.
